    Hi,

I inherited this watch. It was my great grandfather's. I know it almost got
stolen during a train ride sometime during world war I.

I would especially like to know when was it built. And any other special
    detail someone might know.

    Thanks,

    Ariel

A very nice watch you have there. Very nice to have the box and the papers
    with the watch.

Not often seen with a watch from 1914.

Inside, there is a cal 52, the workhorse from IWC in the pocketwatches from
    that time.

    Thank you Tonny,

How do you know it's from 1914? Is the movement serial number tracable?

    Hi Arielr,

yes the movement number is traceable. The factory has a ledger that contains
the movement numbers and the production dates. Ther is also a database on the
web that allows the movement dating.
