I was happy to find this little item, a piece of IWC history.
In the years that quartz watches were hot, IWC had to let go a lot of employees. In order to keep as much of employees on board, the factory took other orders, like making the Sterling silver scale models for Porsche. The people at the factory knew how to work with precious metals, had an eye for detail and the skills to polish small objects like watches or scale models.
So a run of these models were produced in the late seventies. Haven’t seen these around very often.
Made of 925 sterling silver on a scale of 1:43.
It helped survive the brand during the difficult times.
