[Markxviii] Can you accept Change the date at 00:08-00:09?

Hi all iwc owners, i find my watch hat change the date completely at 00:08~00:09. What do u think about this of iwc watch?

Hi, if you mean that the date changes 8-9 minutes after midnight, that can happen. Most of my watches switch exactly at 00.00 hs, but others don't. I guess it depends on the movement?

yes, 8-9mins after the midnight. I think 0-5 mins is better

You might try re-setting your watch. Sometimes after I set a watch I haven't worn in a while I find that the date changes at a slightly different time than it had previously. Also, as Bob mentioned, some movements may have different tolerances than others.

It’s not a big deal at all. And not related to the mechanism.

The minute hand was probably mounted a Little bit off during manufacturing.

It needs to be rotated back a few minutes and this can be done during its first service.

If you have a Boutique with in-house watchmaker, he might be able to do this on the spot for you.

I would not worry about it. The date change occurs independent of hand position.

Actually, First time i saw the change at 00:03, it is very well.

after few week, i saw it at 00:09 to change the date. And last night, it change at 00:12. Why it is not stable indeed?

Also, IWC is not cheap, can you accept it at 00:12 (I think that is the bad QC)? I see another mark18 that change at 00:01~00:04.

Do you think that the IWC Staff will help me to send my watch to adjust?

As we have discussed in a previous thread, IWC employ 3 different methods for date changing in their simple calendar watches.
1)Instantaneous, where power is slowly gathered in a cam then released suddenly, knocking the date indicator forward one day. This is used in the calibre 80110.
2)Semi-instantaneous, where the power is gathered in a spring mounted on a wheel(pictured) and released when the power in the spring overcomes the power of the spring-loaded date click. This is used in the 5000 range.
3)Standard, where a finger on a wheel slowly pushes the date to the next day. This is used in the 792xx chronographs.

All watches, from all brands, have an accepted tolerance between the hands and the date change.
This tolerance can be very tight for methods 1 and 3. 3 or 4 minutes either side of midnight being the norm for method 1 and 4 or 5 for method 3.
The tolerance for method 2, the wheel imaged, is larger. Up to 7 minutes either side of midnight. This is because the power required to arm the long circular spring can vary from the day the hands were fitted.
The method employed in a particular movement depends on the available torque and what other functions are also drawing power from the barrel.
Method 2 has the least influence on the accuracy of the watch as the power is built up more evenly over a longer period of time.
There can be as many as 8 wheels between the movement(hour wheel) and the date indicator disk. By necessity, there must be a little play between the teeth of each and this adds up quickly. You can see this in your own watch by observing the difference between the time the date changes 'naturally' and the time the date changes when you turn the hands with the crown.
To get back on topic and summarise, the 5000 range has an acceptable variation in time of date change between watches as a consequence of IWC's strive for timekeeping accuracy.

I don't even know, what time my watches are changing exactly. I think they're slightly early. My Big Pilot Petit Prince is between 5 and 10 minutes early. That's alright for me.
If it disturbs you, the minute hand has to be adjusted backwards a little as Mark explained.
IWC service or a good watchmaker will be very helpful with that.

sorry ben. As my english is weak. If my mark18 that use 3xxxxx base on selita sw300, it change the date at 00:07~00:12. Is it in good?

I have contacted iwc, they told me this is normal conditon... I just want to say even there is anything wrong, iwc doesn”t adjust for me also.
