    Memory of my father
I inherited a watch from my late father, which I enjoy wearing.
It still runs quite accurately (minus 3 seconds / day) and looks great with the new bracelet.
I would like to know a little more about this watch. I find the following information on the case back:
    R 818 A
    1939114

    The movement bears the designation:
    C.8541
    1917499

Where can I find more information?

    Many thanks for any support!

    Hello Stefan,
that is a very nice watch. I have never seen the black lacquer dial with the white print before. I own the same watch with a white lacquer dial and black roman numerals. Reference 818A is a classic and elegant watch. The movement of the Klaiber 8541 is legendary for its sophisticated construction and for the special automatic winding mechanism devised by Albert Pellaton. When it comes to Swiss wristwatch movements with automatic winding, there are hardly any better movements than the one in your watch.

    Here some data:

    Movement produce 1969

Case produced 1969 most probably sold in 1972

    Cal. 8541 date.

    Total Prod.: 158400 pcs

    Diameter: 28.00mm

    Height: 4.85mm

    Freq.: 19800 A/H 2.75 Hz

    21 Rubies

    Breguet overcoil hairspring

Eccentric adjusting screws on the balance

    Date quick set mechanism

    Greetings

    Dear Cromagnonman
Many thanks for this quick and comprehensive reply. During my search on the Internet, I also did not find any pictures of this model with a black/grey (almost brown) dial. My father seems to have chosen a very special model here (it was actually a gift from my mum to him).
I think it's nice to wear an object that is almost as old as I am and which, it has to be said, has aged better than I have 😀.
    With kind regards
    Stefan
