First, my apologies to those of you who viewed this topic thinking it was another post in the fine series by Nad. But since you're already here, you might as well have a look. :)

Yesterday, my sons and I decided to go for a hike. Not far from here is a smallish mountain called Rocher de Naye (2041m). It isn't technically difficult but can require some stamina depending on the starting point -- or no stamina at all if you ride the cog train to the top. We chose a starting point at about 1175m. We decided to make things more interesting by taking the steepest route up and the most challenging route down which happens to pass through a really cool (and very cold) cave.

For hiking, I wear a Tissot T-Touch. The altimeter function is very helpful for navigating since the topo maps indicate elevation at key points. Just as importantly, I'm not about to wear any of my nice watches where they could easy get damaged. But I really wanted a summit photo to post here. So I put the VC AT in a protective case and put it in my back pack (and hoped that I wouldn't fall in the very slippery, very steep cave).

The boys and I had a great day. Though I hike all the time, for them it is much less common so I was very impressed at how well they kept up. We enjoyed a picnic at the summit followed by a very challenging descent on a blue/white trail (yellow is easiest, then red/white and finally blue/white -- as blue/white trails go this one isn't too bad but it was their first time on one). The cave was a real treat though I'd forgotten to pack gloves for them -- the chains fastened to the cave wall to aid in the descent are very cold in that environment.

    Now on to the photos:

The view southeast. Les Dents du Midi are the seven clustered peaks about 1/3 in from the right edge. Just to the right of them, the peak of Mont Blanc is just barely visible.

The boys and the view northeast. The Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau are all visible.

Most people would probably think that this shot is out of focus but I'm confident that for this audience the focus is just right.

Hi David, I had to take a second look at the title because I didn't remember posting with ZERO replies, LOL!!!!!!!!!

Btw, my friend Jean-Claude Biver also lives in Montreux! He invited my wife and I for a family BBQ a few years back, great evening with him!

The AT looks right at home during your hike!

Beautiful photos, David, thank you for posting them. The hiking must have been a fantastic experience for your boys, congrats for them too.

Although in a somewhat different note than Nad's "My Thursday With IWC" your post is also very nice! ;-)

And your VC AT deserves to have its photo taken in a place like that.

    Cheers!

Thanks guys. It's hard to have a bad day in the mountains, provided that you don't fall off.

Michael - it would have scared me to death when we first moved here. Being able to do that required a lot of effort at getting comfortable and confident in this terrain. It was worth it. Of course, there are a lot of guys who do things that would still make me wet myself...

Sorry Nad, if this becomes a regular series I'll find a new title. :) Your friend's name sounds familiar to me but I can't put my finger on why. Did he run for political office recently? For some reason I keep thinking that maybe I saw the name on signs during election season but I may be way off.

The boys are at an age (10 and 12) that they no longer want to do things simply because I do but once in a while they'll humor me and come along. In a few more years even that will likely end.

Ahh, now I know why the name is familiar, I recently read an article about him in one of the watch magazines. Fascinating guy. I'm sure that sharing a meal with him must be very entertaining.

    David,

It's nice to see a snapshot of how you spend your day. Great looking scenery, kids and watch.

Your picture taking is a real treat for Forum members. Looking forward to more outings in beautiful Switzerland.

BTW, deposit/ordered many months ago, I hope soon to be wearing a VC-AT on my right wrist....Schaffhausen, please release the US allocations. As DMATH (David) used to say, and now it's my turn to carry the torch.... "Waiting not so patiently for my Vintage Aquatimer"

    Nice post David,

    Andy
