I've never seen or heard of this either. It's interesting that an AT was used
for a road rally.
Were these given out to the participants of the race?

I don't know but I can investigate and come back on this question. For sure
the partecipants were much more than 20 drivers....
Hey Guiliano, still a week to go until April 1st!
;-)
Sometime it should be better to be informed before to write a post. Sorry for
the italian language but I think that everybody can understand...
IWC has NOT produced a limited edition of the AT-watch mentioned. If so they
would have had issued a limited number ( no. 01/20 - no. 20/20 ).
Nevertheless it 's a cool idea to do, and order twenty watches and have them
numbered for a nice occasion as you discribe.
however the engraving is a bit "ruff" in my opinion, but it's on the backside
of the watch (so I would not be bothered by it).
another argument is the plaque if IWC would have listed these ATs as limited
editions (wich they didn't) they would have put it on a metal shield in the
box.
Having stated the arguments, it's a Nice Aquatimer and I hope you wear it
(preferabele under water) in good health.
yours sincerely
This is how a
correct 3767 case back engraving should look :) (The watch has been in my
possession for the last 8 years or so.)
Robert do I see a limited edition 01 out of 03 (LOL)
No, it is a very, very narrow limitation, even narrower than quoted: it is
"one out of one". Anyone can guess which of those is mine.
(LOL)
Best,
Robert
Hi, I don't want to be polemic, but:
1) I have never written Limited edition.
2) check the limited edition of the "ingenieur chrono edition W125 ref.
380701" and you can see that it is written " one out of 750" so what you say
is not completely exact
3) there is a metal shield in the box as you want it must be.
At the end I wanted only show an original AT engraved by hand by the factory,
that I had never seen, and made on only 20 pieces. The judgment on the
engraving is personal and not important on this topic.
The engraving of mr. Robert dr. Timar is a personal engraving that everybody
can do on his own watch........so nothing to do with this argument.
Friendly
Giuliano
Well, I did not want to interfere with your OP, just wished to "show off" with
mine :)

Robert
Hello Mr. Giuliano Bizziocchi - congratulations on your Aquatimer, I really
love this watch with the sapphire bezel. However, regarding your statement,
"At the end I wanted only show an original AT engraved by hand by the factory"
I have to disagree. I am sorry but I do not believe the "hand engraving" was
done by IWC at the factory. It certainly appears to have been done by an
amature - I have never seen an engraving of this quality from the IWC
manufacture. And as the engraving was done by hand and is unique, it could
also be argued that this watch is a unique piece and not one of 20 (certainly
not a series of 20 pieces from IWC). The metal shield also looks suspect to me
- I don't believe that this came from the IWC manufacture either.
Here is a translation of your "certificate of authenticity" - a certificate
which was not produced by IWC:
"Certificate of Authenticity FAMS, the San Marino Motoring Federation, thanks
to the availability of IWC Schaffhausen, for the 40th San Marino Rally 2012,
declares: for the Aquatimer watch ref. IW376704 in Steel a Custom Edition was
made with hand engraving on the case bearing the writing, "Tribute to 40 ° SAN
MARINO RALLTY 2012 - 13 out of 20" This certificate is to be considered an
integral part of the watch in question."
Also - If IWC had factory-produced a custom special edition, a new referance
number would have been assigned to the watch and it would not be ref.
IW376704.
Hi Ben, thank you for your comments that I appreciate very much and that
partially I share. At present I don't want and I can't add anything, I only
want to contact FAMS and ask them if they can clirify the story of this watch.
I must understand in what way the IWC was involved on this project.
If I can get fresh news I'll revert on the topic.
For sure the watch was not alone and this cooperation with IWC was announced
before the race on the official program that I have got, and that I annex for
the part regarding the watch.
With my very best regards
Giuliano
