...business trip (not another watch)

The classic UTC is just a beauty. It's face / dial is much bolder than my classic Mark XV and surprisingly this aspect, which I did less appreciate in the past, became one of the adorable aspects of this watch.

The TZC / UTC dual time and especially the hour-reset mechanism is just fantastic and reminds me the Tissot quartz that I bought at the age of 17 with the money I earned for a 1-month job as a waiter in a restaurant (watches must be part of my DNA).
That watch allowed to set the hour-hand without affecting seconds and minutes, it was revolutionary at that time. (Sorry IWC that I bought a quartz, once)

This UTC is so wonderful for travelling and keep contact with home. I have a special year with special business travels, so this watch came just in time.

I could acquire it via a fair deal with one of our fellow forum / collectors. My thanks again to him !
Pictures are just manual and quick and dirty, but I'll try to make better ones later. Please enjoy these at the interim.

I also find it strange that some watches become real beauties over time, where about ten years ago I almost found them ugly. Like the hands of this UTC, I now think they are great, as I think is the watch itself is. IWC must have some secret vision, making beauties before their time sometimes. So, Enjoy!

Agree with you Paul, for most of the ones...

... I currenctly have - with exception of the 3714 and the Jubilee - there was something that I disliked and did not understand on this forum why collectors were so hilarious about certain models, for instance and especially the AT 3536.

Now I know better, age must have brought wisdom finally, and the regretful result of it, is that I don't like the 3714 so much anymore. But it was my 1st and my wife's gift for my 40th birthday. At that time I was convinced it was the one and only watch that I would ever love for the rest of my live...

... I expected some other reply from you, as I intended to dedicate this one to you... finally a 24h time piece.
I'm very pleased to have acquired this one, and it confirms my -so long- understanding for your desire = 24h.
But I honestly prefer it as a sub- rather than main-dial. Just as in this watch. I would never be able to coop with a main 24h dial.

By the way, were there actually any other IWC varieties offering a full 24 h. display? Just serious, not kidding this time, but I cannot recall if there were any, with exception of the digital pocket watch.

You should know that...

...funds were lacking at the time (my own judgement) and therefore decided to buy the Mark XV with steel bracelet...

It was my 2nd watch and I guess / slightly remember to have had difficulities to explain / justify my wife that I wanted the UTC, rather than the Mark XV, so I was very pleased with the latter (own decision) and I still am pleased with the Mark XV by the way.

But 10 years later, I find it remarkable for myself how a collection has been built.
"Collection", however, has one common denominator: no-nonsense, affordable (except 1), all lower budget and more specifically: all daily wearing and climate adjusted watches, meaning sea, earth and air as well.

All watches that I possess fit in this scope.
Of course, with IWC, that is an easy thing to achieve ! That is so lovely of the variety of their collections throughout all past years.

I really like the UTC complication and although I don't have a IWC UTC watch, I have my Breitling B-1 with the added UTC module. Since I got several IWC's this one doesn't get much wrist time anymore and I have been thinking of selling it but it's the favorite watch of my oldest son so I am sticking to it :-)

Rob, no need to appologise to "IWC' for having owned a quartz watch....as we all know, IWC too, followed the trend years ago and sold quartz watches too!

Fortunately they did - helped them survive the crunch period - and be able to come back and put together now these fine timepieces for us.

I don't own one of those UTC's yet....... but the day will come.
