I joined the IWC forum several months ago and for most of that time have been waiting for a Vintage Collection Aquatimer. Three months is not a long time really. Except that those of us here measure time in watch years and by that measure it can seem an eternity. Fortunately, today the wait ended when the UPS man brought the watch to its new home. I'm finally a member of the IWC club.

My day started at 12:45AM when I left to meet a friend for a hike to the summit of a nearby mountain so that we could take sunrise photos. It was a beautiful night and an even better dawn. After taking many photos, we hiked down, had breakfast and then I headed home to collapse. After arriving home I checked my email and found a wonderful surprise -- UPS was scheduled to visit, I hadn't expected them until Monday.

So a large part of my day was spent sitting on pins and needles waiting for the doorbell to ring. Fortunately the Olympics helped me pass the time. Unfortunately, women's beach volleyball had already concluded but there are worse burdens to bear.

I know you've all seen the VC AT many times but you haven't seen MY VC AT so I'm going to bore you with some photos. Please excuse the poor quality -- I was in a hurry. I'll post "glamour shots" soon.

The box, so familiar to many of you. My kids wanted to know why I bought an IWIWA.

It's just the case but presentation is important.
    i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh590/hdmathias/Case.jpg

And there it is, a thing of beauty.

Building the suspense before I finally try it on.

The money shot. Looks right at home there if I say so myself. Excuse the clothes, I hadn't yet changed out of some of my hiking gear.

And finally, the way my day started and the reason I was wearing hiking gear.

Thanks for looking and thanks for being co-enablers to help make this possible. :)

Congrats on your new vintage (!)
The patience has been worth it.
I' curious of your AD gave you some promotional AT items..
Apart from the extra Kevlar strap and folding clasp, I got an AT strandbag and an AT travel pouch. Which are both great collectables as well.
    Cheers

    David, the bad news.....

....you are hooked and guaranteed starting off your collection with such a fantastic membership "card" as you put it, is going to make selecting the next one (no matter how far down the road that might be) oh so much more difficult.

The good news- you may with immeadiate effect change your signature line! LOL

Waiting, not so patiently, for my Vintage Collection Aquatimer is not actual no more. You have it Sir, and it's all yours, and its a real handsome piece.

welcome to the club (even though we welcomed you with or without the watch - the passion itself was sufficient) and wear in good health.

Congratulations David and thanks for the great story and pictures. The remark from your kids abot the IWIWA is priceless!

Your sunruse shot is spectacular and next time you can take a nice wrist shot up there too!

Enjoy that beautiful VC Aquatimer and wear it in good health.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Thanks all for the nice thoughts.

Mark - signature changed. I'd forgotten about it and am happy to excise that sentiment.

Clemens - thanks for the comment on the sunrise photo. It's difficult to take a bad photo of such a beautiful scene.

Bas - This is the first of my watch purchases that didn't include any swag but I got a very fair deal so I don't mind. When I visit Schaffhausen, I'll hit the souvenir shop. There is a souvenir shop, isn't there?

I just began collecting watches in March and this is my third baby (first IWC but not the last). I know that for some of you three new watches constitutes a weekend. For me, I need to cool it for a little while or experience a decrease in domestic tranquility. :)

Congrats David - I had the pleasure of checking out the VC AT last month in Las Vegas and it is a very fine watch indeed, I wish I had one.

I love your sunrise shot, man that is spectacular. And just for the record, we never get tired of seeing photos of IWC watches, so keep'em coming :o)

Thank you again everyone, your congratulations are appreciated.

I spent a good bit of last evening looking at the dial. The AT is certainly a sport watch but the dial just exudes beauty and class. And the lume is great. I don't think I'll tire of this one any time soon.
