That's a perfect watch for a NATO strap.

Not a so called NATO strap, but without the disadvantage and it fits to any watch with 20 mm lugs.

Right, Heiko. Here with a NATO velcro with different dials.
For civil use, of course. ;)

Hi everybody. I wish to get a NATO for my Mark XV. Do you know where to buy one in Italy or online? My best, G.

I'm starting to notice a lot of people are using NATO straps on their time pieces.

    Let's see everyone's NATO straps on their IWC's! Here's my 3717 on a grey/black NATO.

While I'm not the NATO type, they pair very well with the Pilots. I am just amazed how the perfect dial layout/balance of the 3717 handles so many strap variations. It's like celebrating "Year of the Pilot" with every strap change.

Pilot Chrono's ...a staple for all collections,

    Andy

Very well put sir. I agree with you very much on how they pair well with the NATO, good balance between the design of both strap and watch. Thanks!

Looks good on the early iwc pilot watches. Not certain about fitting them across the board though.

While I can appreciate the pure functionality of NATO straps, which absolutely makes sense from a design-to-real-life-usage sense, I'm not a fan of them at all. Sometimes a watch and a strap can match really nicely (such as Rave's Pilot chronograph), but I generally feel it takes away most or all of the strength or masculinity a watch exudes. Or maybe it's cause I don't have any hipster clothing to match NATO straps? I guess it's kind of strange how NATO straps were designed and employed for military usage and now they're associated with hipster clothing and style.
