18 k mesh strap automatic with date. Jeweller confirmed it is 18k. The bottom
dial states Swis Made with a single S at the end of Swiss...

Hello and welcome to the forum. The watch appears authentic but your photos
are not too clear. If you can open the caseback you can search the "date your
IWC applet" with the case and movement numbers to determine age and calibre.
You may want a watchmaker to assist you in doing this.

    Hello Slubbert1,

the watch looks authentic to me. However swiss with only one s is a no go. If
you take a look with a magnifiying glass, maybe you see the reminds of the
second s, perhaps it has faded out somehow.

The Automatic inscript is quite large on your watch, maybe the dial has been
worked on ( redone?) in the past, that could also explain the missing s.

I attached a photo of a similar dial as an aid to comparison.

And the Crown needs to have a fish on that model

WOW!!! What a beautiful watch to inherit!

So it is a Reference 808A and Caliber 8541B from 1969. This is a very fine
movement and some say, it is the best IWC movement of the era!

Theoretically it is an 808 AD (automatic/date) but that time they where not
too accurate with the indications in the back of the case, as it was the same
case for A and AD. I am even not sure if the Ref 808A existed without date.
