    Hello!

Would someone be able to help me with identifying this watch. It was either my
grand fathers or great grand fathers watch. The watch band is aftermarket.

Any other information would be appreciated.

    Simon

    IWC Caliber 89 from 1940s or 1950s.

    Very nice case shape/lugs.

The bracelet is clearly not IWC and sadly the watch looks like it's badly in
    need of a full restoration.

sending it back to Schaffhausen for a SPA treatment, won't be cheap - but it
will come back looking absolutely fantastic and good for another 75 years.

It has now been sent to IWC Schaffhausen in Switzerland via IWC Melbourne.
They are going to quote on the cost to repair and provide more details as to
the age etc. It's probably going to cost a mint to fix.

It's quite hard to turn the crown but it does move when I pull it out to
change the time. The inner mechanics seems quite stiff too.

Looking forward to hearing back from IWC.

You did the right thing! Every cent you spend on this watch to restore it to
its former beauty (and if you allow them to do so - they will!) is a cent well
    spent.

search the forum for previous articles by me regarding "The Wizards of
    Schaffhausen) to see some results.

Please do post some before and after pictures here so we can share in your joy
of receiving this watch back looking like it did the day it first left the
    manufactury.
