Recently purchased this Pallweber pocket watch and know nothing about it. It's missing it's case. Appears to be very old but not sure of year. The face plate looks to be made of porcelain? Had hard time finding the name, it's one of the gears I had to use a magnifying glass to see it. I am not sure if I will keep or sell it or if it's even worth fixing. Has 14910 stamped on back. Just looking for information and appreciate any help. Thanks.

Kevcrid, yes it's a Pallweber movement of which in total around 12400 were built by IWC in a 2 year span around the mid 1880's. The Date your IWC utility lists it as "...movement is either a calibre 40, a calibre 41, or a calibre 42, dating from the year 1885."

It was probably originally cases in a gold case - which could explain why it's homeless today. Some of the pallweber pieces had IWC script logo's - otheres not (and obviously those that had, are more sought after by the pocket watch collectors). There were many variations of dials (and 3 main versions of movement) and I have pictures of more than 25 different pallweber dials.

IWC Schaffhausen will not work on bare movements - although they too are running out of Pallweber spare parts (and are/were one of the few places that maintained spare part stock!)

Thanks for the information, Mark it's a huge help. Since getting it fixed and finding parts will be difficult I will sell it. Does anyone have suggestion as to where I should sell? Also what is an estimated value?

The price you paid should give you an idea of its market value.

I purchased secondhand for $50, I know it's worth more than that. I guess a auction will be the best way to determine value.
