I would stay where you are right now, sticking to the beautiful ceramic watch. The father watch would be a bit too bling for me. But there is more. As you stay in the Big Pilot realm, you would probably lose money on the swap without really improving. You could use that money as part of the payment for a new, different watch, like for instance a Portuguese.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Ceramic for me too!! I have a massive dilemma looming as I have both top gun ceramics the good old double Doppler 46mm and the new version with the in house movement, I love both of them dearly but I don't know what one to keep!!! I opted for the ceramic as it's more understated and less bling and also it's as hard as nails and doesn't mark at all! Keep what you have it's stunning!!!!!

There's a problem with the BP Father. There's no son! They are sold as a pair so you are missing part of the package.

I say NO, don't do it.....!

I have to agree Mark - the father's Pilot is a beautiful watch but it's only complete with the son's watch.

all factors would have to be considered including trade-in value, etc. as paul was hinting at.

but assuming this was a decision between only these two watches as a purchase from the start i would go for the 500906. the 501901 for me just crosses the line for a bit of too much "gimmickiness" with the loud and distracting red airplane on the seconds hand.

i'm in good company as clearly adriana seen here with a 500906 on this night would agree...

    good luck,

    What a picture that is.

Got to disagree though. I don't find the red plane gimmicky at all. I love this BP. It's a beautifully clean design in my opinion.

Yes lots of people love this BP and it's a good design. Just a personal thing of course... the red plane and the 'top gun' logo on the rear (which isn't even a real insignia/logo - just think it's the 80s movie one). So just a bit too much for me. Still like it (!), but wouldn't buy it given other choices.
