Have you hard about the Caspari effect? Need an explanation of Breguet overcoils?

You can access Boris' article by clicking here.

    Enjoy!

An excellent article that makes the baffling understandable.

Interesting! I wonder whether a Breguet spring and a flat spring with the Caspari effect have about the same accuracy. The Breguet spring is then the cleaner solution, as there is no abberation with counter measure. Both types of spring make for the same accuracy parameters by IWC, between about 0 and +5 (or +7?) seconds a day, as with a watch with a tourbillon, or? I think it would make sense to deliver the watch with more sophisticated parts with a tighter tolerance.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

"Accuracy" is normally measured at a state of full wind. The purpose of a Breguet overcoil is to avoid isochronism error when the watch approaches a state of unwind. That is, if a watch movement has an autonomy of, say, 72 hours, it is during the latter hours that the over oil makes a difference.

A tourbillon is a regulating device that does not avoid isochronism error. A Breguet overcoil can still be used on the mainspring of a tourbillon.
