I am pleased to present my newest article, Time in Your Pocket, about the IWC pocket watch tradition. It's not easy to relay the history of IWC pocket watches in about 2000 words, but I hope that I may have accomplished that. While there are books on the subject, I believe this may be the first article summarizing the entire pocket watch history. Hopefully it can serve as an introduction and as a short reference source.

You can read the article by clicking on this link.

By the way, if you're wondering about the above image, it's a Calibre 28, 19 line, à bascule piliers with three quarters plate, The Calibre was introduced ca. 1880 by IWC's then Head of Engineering and Operations, Mr. F. Pfister-Droz.

Thanks especially to Dr. David Seyffer, IWC's Museum Curator, who very much helped here and supplied the images.

    Enjoy the article!

Wonderful to read about "our heritage" - and yet still so much we still need to discover!

I look forward to reading the next article. Thanks for sharing the knowledge MF.

Michael explained to me that he had to write an article on the history of IWC pocket watches within the limitation of 2000 words.
Those who are not familiar with writing cannot understand how difficult this is. In German language there is a saying : "In der Beschränkung, zeigt sich der Meister". The people at IWC will understand this perfectly but the saying is difficult to translate in English. It means : "By the limitation, the real master is shown"
I guess for any collector or author it would be hardly possible to encompass a century of IWC pocket watch making in the way MF did : "chapeau" to use the watch makers language in Switzerland or : "hat's off".
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).

Thanks everyone; I appreciate your comments. But, Adrian, I have to tell you I "cheated" on the word count by about 200 extra words ;)

Hi Michael, fantastic article. Although I'm not a 'pocket watch guy', i.e. I don't own any, it's great to read how they bridge to today's contemporary watches!

Closest I ever came to a pocket watch are my Portuguesers: Jones, Jubilee and 5001.

    Best regards,

    Bob

Well, gentlemen --in my (not so humble) opinion, I think everyoneshould own at least one IWC pocket watch. Many are of superb quality and cost relatively little. Good deals are hard to pass up!
