Great watch, but I like the Perpetual Calendar Portugese more.

I like the black and sand beige color combination. It provides somewhat of a vintage look, I think. I'm less positive about pilot watches in gold, but this looks nice.

It looks like IWC might be "demilitarizing" the look of some of the recent BPs and BPPs and making them more dressy (e.g., by leaving off the classic rivets on the strap) - which, from a collector's standpoint I think is pretty interesting.

    I like the new BPP!

When I see this watch I think of Jun Jun. would be Greta to see it on Jun Jun.

More seriously another great looking limited edition BP PC to add to the stable!

Very interesting watch - in my opinion it's visually much more coherent than the rose gold version with white index markers and hands. Does someone know the reference number or retail price?

Looks nice but given the choice, I would go for the St Ex. (IW502617)

That watch sings to me! 5N RG and a black dial. Too bad my wallet is deaf at this point. But I can't wait to see it in the metal.

Anything special about the back of the case?

    Larry
PS: SC and Tracey, it seems like it is getting tough to be a completist when it comes to BPs.

I picked up my one yesterday no. 164/500 and what an amazing timepiece.

I'm a huge fan of the perpetual calendar and in red gold is absolutely beautiful...

    Cheers

Gsauls - welcome to the forum - great to see another person as "crazy" as I am to make the IWC entry with a Perpetual. Mine was the portuguese though!

Now, one thing you will learn on this forum is that we all crave pictures of these beautiful watches - and as you seem to have the first one of these we are hoping and waiting for you to share some with us :-)

Well if that is your first IWC and you intend to get another in 2012, just what do you buy after a BP LE in RG PPC?

    Hi Greg,

I'm possibly hoping to purchase a PORTUGUESE SIDÉRALE SCAFUSIA

First I'm hoping to find it somewhere and then I'm hoping not to have to sell part of my current collection to be able to buy the watch but I think it's a really beautiful grand complication of a watch.

I'm also hoping for some guidance with regards to a nice vintage IWC.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers

I'm not Greg, but if I may reply:

    1. if you're serious about the Siderale, you'll not find one at a store...they really are custom made to each owner's preference and with a specific star chart for each owner's exact location, even altitude. I hear right now there are orders for about 1 1/2 years for them.

    2. On nice vintage IWC's to my thinking there are two iconic models worth considering

--the Mark 11, IWC's first megastar wristwatch
--the Jubilee Portuguese, a classic representing IWC's pocket watch tradition in a wristwatch

There are others and rarer --the Special Watch for Aviators (called erroneously a Mark 9), the original Big Pilot's Watch from 1940, the original Portuguese, etc. But candidly for starters I like the first two, which are more accessible, more. Also --beware. There are a lot of fakes of these out there, especially if you don't know the models well. Buy the seller as much as the watch.

Hi Michael, thanks for the advice. I didn't realize it was that rare that it was custom build to order.

I unfortunately don't think I can wait that look for a watch as much as I enjoy LE pieces, I like to enjoy these timepieces now.

I do however like the IWC Portuguese jubilee LE... Well worth making a few calls to find that.

What's your thoughts on the vintage collection portofino hand wound... I've grown a liking to it's subtle elegance and pristine sophisticated look.

I'm thinking of checking one out this week.

    Cheers

Gsauls --I got the Vintage Collection Portofino in platinum. It's easier to read than the steel one, but both can be a bit difficult to wind due to the small crown.

That said, if you have other thoughts or questions about other models, I suggest starting a new thread. This one really should be about the new 2011 LE Big Pilot Perpetual.

I love the combination of Big Pilot and perpetual calendar calibres! Can't wait to see the 'regular collection edition' at SIHH 2012 :)
