My father received a gold watch as an engagement present in 1956. It was bought from Garrard's the jewelers on Regent Street in London. Garrard's closed that store and apparently they do not keep records [hand-written receipts?!] going back that far. [I asked!]

Wondering if anyone could help me identify the watch from the attached images [shared links above]. There is no serial number on the back. The hands are not pointed. The crown is slightly bulbous. The word "Swiss" appears at far bottom under the marking below numeral 6. I think my father had it serviced some time ago and as far as I know it is still all original. [Strap is not original..]

    Thanks for your help!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I believe this is a cal 89.
    The crown is a replacement.

I agree with Tonny. Probably calibre 89 and a replacement crown.
Take it to a decent watchmaker to get the back off and take pictures of the movement and case back. Take note of the movement number and the reference number inside the caseback.
Unless you know when it was serviced don't wind it, if the oil has dried in the movement it will cause wear.

I had a watch repairer take off the back. Please see photos attached.

He said it was a 7-jewel IWC original movement.

Inside there are the words INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO with the word SWISS below that.
There appears to be a reference number 1321947.

The case back says DENNISON Made in England, above which is a number 13322.
    Underneath is another number: 9 375 9 ?
    Below that are 3 letters inscribed A L D
    Underneath that is yet another number: 3 5 3 2 9 3 ??

Could this be an original case back or is it too a replacement?

Could anyone confirm the movement and IWC model?

    Dubois,
That movement number would make it a 1954 Caliber 89. Should be 17 jewels rather than 7, though. I cannot view the pictures, so I cannot tell you about the caseback. My 1957 Caliber 89 had a service 9 months ago, a month after I acquired it, and now keeps perfect time! It is a pure pleasure to wind every morning! I hope you enjoy your watch as much as I enjoy mine.
    Regards,
    Jim

PS--I did some research, and found that the Dennison Case Company of Birmingham, England, made cases for some Omega, IWC, and JLC watches during the mid-20th century. In those days, to get around trade restrictions, fine watch manufacturers would ship movements, and allow them to be cased in other countries. The 353293 number would be your case number. Probably your movement was made at Schaffhausen in 1954, then was shipped to England, where it was cased, then sold in 1956. What a wonderful keepsake to have from your father!
    Jim
