Since I just registered as a new forum member it is appropriate to introduce myself.

Watch collecting started for me in 1986 with an old Breitling premier. After the mechanical watch virus has infected me I started reading about mechanicalwatches. As a result I collected too many watches.......high grade such as Svend Andersen, Breguet, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet. I sold what was left in order to finance the study of my kids. Still happy with that decision. What is left: my first self-bought watch (a Sieko diver in 1974, bought new), a 811AD IWC yacht club, and my daily wearer: my IWC GST perpetual calender in titanium.  I decided to restrict myself: 1 wrist, 1 watch. On the other hand: the Seiko will never leave.

The yacht club is a different story.

I bought it around 2000. It went to Schaffhausen in order to get an extract from the archives: it was sold october 20th 1970 in Baden, Germany. The crown unfortunately is not original anymore. About 20 years ago a friend of mine borrowed the watch because he was interested in it. I forgot about it and recently I got it returned. It needs a full mechanical overhaul. I am still in doubt whether or not to have this done. From another forum (not brand related) I got remarks regarding the steel bracelet. It is an oyster style bracelet with the correct endlinks and, in my opinion a correct clasp. Here is the advice nedded: the clasp has a flip lock like the rolex submariner. I myself have no doubts about the originality but cannot find any hints on the internet about this. Is anyone familiar with this type of clasp and is it possible to find an original crown in case I want to have it overhauled?

    Best regards,

    Charles
