I think IWC did a Sterling job of revamping the Inge line. I will wait until I see the AT's in the flesh but I like what I see. Time marches on.

We could not be any more farther apart than we are, literaly and figuratively. On Earth we are at the antipodes of each other, and on IWC watches your position is anathema to me.
Having said that, I will add that you have all right to enjoy your Ingenieur. You actually seem to be in the majority in today's forum.
I will just quote Mark Twain, 'Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.'

A perfect fitting quote about the situation !

And isn´t it boring, to be always part of the majority, even on a forum ?!

And it would be even more boring if we all agreed, all the time, and all liked the exact same watches ;-)

PS! I really enjoy this "discussion"!

Hi Heiko.
History actually tells us that "majorities" are frequently wrong and have been the cause of some human tragedies.
In this case, we are just talking about watches, and the worst case scenario is the brand be diluted, by too much exposure too fast. It would be a tragedy for IWC, but humanity would survive. :-)

What if we all liked the same woman. That would be interesting. ;-)

I can live with that. :-)

Well, that sounds catchy until you realize that the majority makes big money for IWC. The minority does not. At least not yet. LOL

I'm not sure liking the new Inge's is a majority opinion. It's a pretty even split I think.

Just curious, and curiosity unaddressed kills me. Those who think IWC is going to the s----er-what do you say about the present 3239?
What was your opinion on the "Zidane" from half a decade ago?

Alan. I think you may have missed my point. The issue is not how much money IWC is making now. The issue is if this quest for short term profits is sustainable.

Quest for short term profits: has IWC in fact told you that they go for this kind of profit? Or is this more of a fantasy of yours, rationalising your emotion that you don't like what IWC is doing right now, pleasing a lot of people and being successful at the same time? I rather look at pictures of your old watches than read your comments on the way how to run a watch company.

Kind regards,
Paul

Jeez --it's an interesting discussion but I would ask two things:

1. Keep in mind that that this as simply an announcement about the new position for one IWC Exec and an announcement as to who is taking over. The discussion has been more than a bit "hijacked". I suggest that new discussions be initiated when there's new topics :)

2. Constructive criticism is welcome, but some of the comments have been, at least possibly as seen by some, as "below the belt". I suggest we all word our comments politely and constructively, even if we disagree. We just need to remember that we're all guests in IWC's house here.

Thanks very much.

Above, I asked some of you what you thought of the basic, present Ingeneur; and for comparison , the "Zidane". I am TRULY wondering what your thoughts are on this. I have reservations about some of the present collection; and I am guarded as to my opinion on the direction of the company-while understanding the direction from a business point of view. But some of you seem very upset with IWC, bordering on rage when others don't get your point. But your criticisms seem vague to me. Words like "on steroids"; "obese"; "no soul". What do you mean-specifically? And in particular, which watches exhibit these undesirable traits? Please tell me/us what you think is wrong.

Mike -I respectfully suggest initiating a new topic/new discussion here. It's worthy of reasonable and reflective discussion.

Well, being a tad late to this party (or barroom brawl), I'd like to welcome Edouard and wish Gianfranco good fortune in his new role. While the Asian market has exploded recently, the North American market is huge and I hope Edouard is open to some "field trips." Hopefully, I'll get a chance to meet him.

Many of us who have been long time IWC aficionados, have seen quite a few North American Presidents. Some have been much friendlier to the Forum than others, but all shared a passion for the product.

I'm enthusiastic when IWC introduces a special edition, whether it be a Becker, Zidane, Plastiki, Volvo, AMG, Boutique, Pisa, or even CF! Doesn't mean I will buy them (small budget, big wishes), just means I like to see what the designers can come up with.

And while this is IWC's sandbox and we just get to play in here, I do appreciate the diverse and often spirited opinions that are expressed here. Even those that occasionally take a shot at the ownership.

Best,
Larry

Don't forget the relatively affordable LPP. Sorry, no controversy, just wanted to be able to say I posted to this historic thread. I reside in North America, so three cheers for the new president ;)
