    Dear Forum

I am happy to say that I recently joined the IWC club.

I purchased a new Portuguese Chronograph Automatic and love it! However, I have not worn it for a week so when I put it on I wound it back up with the crown (approximately 20 rotations as per the guidance I received from the IWC store). After about an two-three hours the time had slipped dramatically by about five minutes. I took it into the store to have somebody look at it and I was told that if the power reserve falls below 20% on new watches it may take some tome for it to start running again so I should wind it back up and see if it holds. Unfortunately it still doesn't hold the time. I can send it back to Switzerland for it to be looked at but I will be without it for 4-6 weeks. Before I do this I wanted to check with the forum to see if anybody had any advice or similar experiences.

    Thanks so much.
    Tom

Wear it and keep wearing it and then after 10 days take it off and see how quickly it stops. Some say it takes a month of use for the watch to break in and you should take note after 30 days.
I presume the watch was new when you bought it but we don't know how old it is since manufacture.

I would have it looked at asap. Send it to IWC.

First, I would give the watch al least 40-50 winds to start with, that should be enough to have it fully wound. Then, the watch should run as specified, maybe gaining up to 7 seconds a day. All my watches behaved like that when I bought them, they still do. If your watch loses as much time as you mention, I am afraid something is wrong with it. Your AD should take care of it, maybe by sending it in. If so, it is a nasty start, good luck!

    Kind regards,
    Paul
