I had a custom strap made out of a vintage swedish canvas military bag to give my Mark XVII that tool watch look I've been wanting. Pretty happy with the result!

Agree..this is a great look for the XVII. I also like the heavy contrast stitching. Reminds me a little of the prototype fabric strap that was shown at 2012 SIHH when the MiraMar was introduced.

    Is it leather lined ?

    Good Choice....Andy

The lining is made from a vintage swiss ammo pouch to keep in line with the vintage swiss theme, which made the strap on the thick side, which also gave the watch a bit more heft. A definite plus for me! The OEM gator sure is nice but it made the Mark XVII seem like a delicate dress watch, and that is far from how I see the pilot line of IWC's.

and since i'm in the mood to swap around straps, I thought I'd try to see what it would look like on a Nomos Ludwig

    RAYPABS,

I'm with your viewpoint about the type of strap that belongs on a MARK. For example, my feeling is it's just one of many reasons why the new LE LPP17 has such interest and attraction. The OEM ST.EXUPERY Brown Calfskin is a beefier strap w/contrast stitch and gives the Pilot that complete vintage look unlike a Croc. Exactly what your strap does.

Your pic's really show the quality and workmanship put into that custom strap. "Hat's Off" to your strapmaker...excellent craftsmanship, impressive lining, well thought out design, selection of materials and color. Really raises the bar on that XVII.

    Thank you for sharing,

    Andy

    Looks awesome to me!

I like the Swedish connection... Could you email me the contact details to your strap maker?

    Thx

Thanks, Andy! Nice to know someone shares the same sentiment. If only I had known earlier that the LPP17 was going to be released, I would have waited for that instead. But I still love my Mark XVII, even more now with this new strap!

The strapmaker is well known in our local watch community. He does great work! First time to order from him and definitely won't be the last.

Summer is in full swing in my neck of the woods! Setting aside my leather straps and changed to the bracelet. Well worth the price, I think! Micro-adjustment is just perfect! Of course, it looks good too!

Somehow I've missed this thread before. That strap looks perfect. Also the picture from the air is very nice. I like it.

One of the best straps I've seen - would you be able to tell me the strap maker as would love to get a strap like this for my pilots watch.

    Again what a fantastic strap.

I missed this thread too, the strap looks fantastic! And it is a fabulous watch. The triple date is such a bonus to me, it makes reading (guessing?) the date so much easier, as I notice on both my Worldtimer and Spitfire Chrono. Strange, I have the feeling I might own the Mark XVII too one day. It is such a serene beauty!

    Kind regards,
    Paul
