It seems that the new MIRAMAR chronograph in the picture doesn't feature an hour counter but only a minute counter. That's what the pictures and the text tell me. Is this true for the other chronographs (classic / spitfire / double chrono) as well?
It seems that the MIRAMAR and SPITFIRE chronos feature inhouse movements and the classic chrono doesn't?
Questions and more questions ... ;-)

    Hi Tilo..

Maybe the subdial at 12 gives you the minutes while the subdial at 6 counts hours...?

Hopefully the XVII(41mm) will have the same bracelet(IWA20869)as the current pilot chrono(42mm)! Then I will buy the mark with bracelet. So I can swap straps/bracelets :)

Tilo --I believe you're correct. The new in-house chrono movement is actually simplified from the c. 89361 used in the Da Vinci and Yacht Club. I don't believe Nacho's surmise is correct but will double-check. In all events the "regular" pilot's chronos will continue to be Valjoux-based.

Vincent --it is a new bracelet and really special (more later). I believe it will also fit the 42mm chrono but need, again, to double-check.

Whilst the majority are all excited at these new additions, I remember something that will throw cold water over this excitement. During the summer I saw the old and new gold Portofino automatics in a shop. In round figures the difference in price between the old versus new was +40%. Since then there has been price rises in most markets. Just keeping my feet on the ground and my cc under control.

You could be right, but overall sales and the growth of Asian markets have increased IWC gross and net profits dramatically over the past two years. I suspect the allure of the new Pilot line will just enhance the brand.

In reading through this thread, it appears that there might be some confusion regarding sizes of the Top Gun Miramar models.

The Top Gun Miramar Chronograph which is shown on the images here and elsewhere is 46m in diameter.

The new Top Gun Miramar Big Pilot --which has not yet been shown here or elsewhere-- is 48 mm.

    Dear (future) IWC friends,

I am looking forward to soon joining the community and own my first IWC watch. I have been looking at different models for a while now. I finally went to an IWC retailer today, I have to say I was very impressed. They all look so amazing, and also so much better than on any picture! Of course every collection is beautiful, but for my taste I like the design of the Spitfire Mark XVI the most (325502). Simple and yet so elegant. Perfect for both everyday use or with a suit. I find that silver-plated dial amazingly done, and I couldn't take my eyes off it. Yes, I could see it on my wrist for many years!

Now I have a hard time understanding what will happen to this specific model with the new Pilot series coming soon. Is it considered as a Spitfire or a Mark XVII? If there is a Spitfire version of the upcoming Mark XVII, looking the exact same but slightly bigger (41mm I believe) then this will be the perfect watch and perfect size for me, and I'll soon be a happy IWC owner. If it is discontinued, then I should maybe get the current Mark XVI version, which unfortunately looks a bit too small on my wrist.

    Thanks for your input.
    Kind regards to all.

    Vincent

    MF,
Great to hear that the Chronograph will be 46mm. Having worn the Current Top Gun Dopple for the past few years I can honestly say 46mm will be a great size (at least for me!)for The ceramic Miramar Chrono.

For those who have not tried on or worn the present ceramic IWC offerings, I think it will be surprising how much smaller these cases wear than a similar diameter Stainless steel case.
Really looking forward to more photos of the new pilot line.
Any luck of seeing any more photos this week? :)
    Happy New year!
    Jeff

    Michael-

Are you able to tell us the diameter of the other new chronos with the 89365 movement (Spitfire, standard Top Gun)?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best Regards,
    Sean

Just returned from a day of diving and see this! For me, the perfect end of a great day!

MF - your promises of an exiting 2012 IWC year, ring true! This is a fantastic lineup of new Pilots and the world timer as well as the Spitfire Month Day are real intriguing - cant wait to see dial layouts / colore etc.

    THANKS FOR SHARING.

    Best regards
    Mark

A few answers to recent questions:

Vincent --all new Spitfires will be either chronos or the Digital Day/Date Perpetual. The chronos will be 43mm in diameter. To my knowledge all prior Spitfire models will be discontinued but some may be in circulation for a while. The idea is to make the Spitfire line the higher-end, slightly dressier pilots' watches.

Sean --the new "regular" chronos will be 43mm wide. The "standard" new Top Gun chrono will be 46mm wide.

By the way, on width numbers I'd wait to you see the watches to judge fully. I know for several models IWC made prototypes in different sizes. The widths were determined by look (the ceramics looked much smaller) and height/width balance. They really look nice in person --I wish I could show all photos now, but within two weeks you'll see many.

Well Michael....I'm "Fueled Up" and ready to "Take Off" the second these new models hit my AD or the Beverly Hills Boutique.

If you can comment...a few questions for clarification from the news release:

    • Will the new Pilot "Classic" Chrono (43mm) have the "Triple Date" AND day feature?

    • Will the Font, like the Top Gun MiraMar shown, be consistant in both the Pilot Crono and Mark XVII only in arabic numbers?

    • Is the new strap shown, the standard offering for the Chrono/Mark? Or will alligator remain, or maybe something totally different?

Sorry for so many questions, but as you can imagine, I'm very excited and can't wait. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new crono, but deciding on the existing 3717 and the new one is what faces me. All decisions should be as hard as this...Am I Right People?

    Thanks for any input(if possible),

    Andy

Makes my 39 mm Fliegurhur Chrono Ref. 3706 seem quite small, seemed big in 2003...'times they are a changing'.

    Thank you, Michael.

Miramar is a perfect fit for IWC & the new line has a strong military look. Very interested to see all the new releases.
