    Evening all,

I'm not sure if this has been a topic of dicsussion previously but I'm going
to throw it open again as I know it is likely to divide opinion and I hope
will lead to a good discussion.

I would love to get the forums opinion on this watch as I fell in love with it
in an instant. It's a unique piece that has a documented sorry behind it.

    Thanks all

    Further details below:

In 1965 IWC received a request via a well known jeweller in the Hague from a
Dutch civil engineer (born in 1901 in Sumatra and studied at Delft University)
for "a steel men's wristwatch international watch co. type INGENIEUR ref 666a
with a completely white dial without any marks except the IWC brand and the
name INGENIEUR, without second hand, with extra heavy black hands and a steel
    fixoflex spring-loaded bracelet."

The watch comes with its original documents which match the engraving between
    the lugs.

The letter from the retailer explains all the differences included on this
watch with the envelope showing the original stamp with coherent dates.

    What a clean ingenieur!

Perfect that the letter still exists. Otherwise the watch would be judged as
    an interrupted restoration project.

    This is something extraordinary.

Especially with he letter in Dutch.

As you know Indonesia was untill the 1950s a Dutch colony called the East
    Indies.

After the indepence of Indonesia, all Dutch employed people returned to The
Netherlands, including a large number of native inhabitants and military KNIL
    people.

Many of them landed in The Hague.

If you did not already do so, I advice you to write to the IWC museum curator
    Dr. David Seyffer.

With the movement number and case number he can find out what happened to this
    watch and its dial.

    Regards,

    Adrian,

    (alwaysiwc).

Thanks for the detailed information Adrian. Really good to build to the
history of this piece. How's the best way to get a hold of Dr. David Seyffer?

    Thanks

James, thanks for sharing - what is an amazing bit of IWC history and
    heritage.

Now, somewhere deep down in in the grey matter here I somehow seem to recall
this story/watch and indeed believe that on seeing it that I translated the
letter for Dr. Seyffer, sharing it with him. However, for the life of me I
cannot recall when and how this came about. I'll have to dig into my archive
    to check.

Either way, you have a handsome and fairly (read: VERY) unique watch there,

How great it is to find out already now so much about this Ingenieur.

For me it remains intriguing why the first owner wanted such special 'empty'
dial, while IWC had such beatiful dials to choose from.

That's what drew me to it, such a simple dial back in 1965 with two enticing
logos and the Mark XI hands.
