Hello all! I've been a member of this great forum for a little over 11 years, but have never posted a watch before. For most of that 11 years, I've been without an IWC. But today I am pleased to have purchased the great 5001 from my AD.

In spite of all the strong IWC lines, the Portuguese design has been my own favorite. Recently I was considering nautical deck-style watches with blued hands and silvery dials. I was this close to going with a Dornblüth 99.1. But the 500107 just kept calling my name!

I like the 5001's narrow bezel, superb legibility and large date window. I plan to wear it casually as well as to the office. I think it can dress down as well as up. Do you agree?

Anyway, here are some quick photos snapped after I left the AD today. This photogenic watch deserves its own photo shoot, definitely!

(Oh, and I'm still waiting for the Portuguese hand-wound 545408 to arrive by special order...)

Congratulations on your IWC purchases, I don't have a 5001, but am always drawn to those blue hands and numerals, and the 545408 will compliment the 5001 beautifully. Great photos too!

Even though its your first IWC, your eleven years of experience shows - Its a watch that has almost all the best features of IWC range. Great choice ! Congratulations !

Another great choice, Greg. I hope your 5454 arrives soon and that you'll post pictures here of the pair. There is just nothing quite comparable to the Portuguese line!

Congratulations, that's a real winner. Certainly at or near the top of my (realistic) wish list. And yes, I think that watch can go dressy or casual -- very versatile in my opinion.

    5001 - a true classic.

I waited far to long before adding one to my collection - never regreted doing so, only having waited so long. However certainly not 11 years :-)

Way to go, and a perfect choice for the 2nd one too!
