Olive green Porsche Design 3307

Hi guys and girls,

I have just got an olive green PD watch, ref 3307, serial starting 24, and I
can not see much information out there. I am no novice, having owned several
IWC's. owning the Engineering Time book and have visited the Museum in
Schaffhausen twice, but this has me stumped.

I have seen an olive green compass watch, which Christies said was anodised
aluminium. It is very light, but obviously Titanium was the go to material
for so many of these. One other private seller reference says it was a
limited edition for the military, but i doubt that (when does the military
want gold highlights on the bracelet?) All information on this welcomed with
open arms

This watch was called the military version of the compass watch but it was
more I would say a scouts watch.

It was never issued by any nation as a miltary watch and there are no military
markings on it .

The only Porsche Design miltary watch was the Ocean Bund series, issued by the
German Navy and developed by the late Jurgen King as super a-magnetic
watches. It was used by mine sweepers and combat swimmers.

The Link does not work, so I placed a photo of ref. 3307 with a Quartz
movement.

An oliv - and black coated titanium version is also available.

The ref. 3510 Compass Watch has a oliv or black coated alumium case and an
Automatic movement.

Both models were never used as military watches.

The green model ref. 3307 was manufactured with an aluminum case. It was
touted by IWC as one of the most lightweight timepieces before watch cases and
bracelets were made in later years from titanium.

Unless your timepiece is still in pristine unworn condition be aware that IWC
can no longer supply any case or bracelet parts for this model watch. Many
years ago IWC offered an option to convert worn cases made from aluminum to
titanium but that program has been discontinued as parts for the same style
titanium models have been exhausted and no more available.

So if anyone has a worn case and bracelet where links detach easily be advised
that they can no longer be repaired or replaced.

Yes, the IWC
PD Compass watch ref: 3510 both Olive green and black with Anodised Aluminium
case doesn't have any military markings on it or had never been issued to any
army as Adrian said. Olive green version was obviously rarer than the black
version, especially in good condition. I'm lucky to own both in pristine
condition. The black one with early anodised aluminium adjustable bracelet,
the olive green one with a later plastic bracelet.

In according with my knoledge the bracelet of these aluminium watches was in
delrin by Dupont.

There is also a nice piece with the moon phases.

The Compass Models:

Dear Hebe, it should be fantastic if I was able to shot my watches as you are
doing. Congratulation with a small envy....

This is my one. It is in great condition (my photography needs work!) and
only weighs 44 grams, sized for my 185mm wrists. Glad we could rule out the
military hype, and it it was titanium IWC did like to shout about that. Any
idea when it was made, and in what
numbers?

Just checked catalogs from the 80s and notices the ref. 3510 discription with
a detail: NATO-Green.
Most probably misunderstood and the basic for the MILITARY myst ?!

Some information from IWC to share. Thank you for all the answers so far.

The case and bracelet is anodised aluminium, with 14k gold inserts. It was
launched in 1982, and then they switched to Titanium cases so the short
production run expains why there are not many about.
