    Baptise of boat

The boat seems to have been baptised, quite a cold experience I read. Any pictures of it?

    Kind regards,

I had to leave before the Christening....

...which I was told was "skippable", being somewhat perfunctory. Sorry no photos.

Rob, if you only knew.... ,)

There's good news and bad news here.

The "bad news" is that there is a lot of behind the scenes work here. Sometimes it's real work and not always fun, honestly...

The "good news" is that it can be even better than what I've reported. I had a most interesting dinner recently with a very well-known celebrity who is also an IWC fan (and not one of the "usual suspects" reported from time to time here). And also I'm preparing to leave in a few weeks for another IWC event that's even more intriguing than the Plastiki press conference. I've been justifiably asked not to say anything yet, so check in during mid-March.

    Regards,
    Michael

But I found some press photos online...

Assuming these aren't removed after a short time, which sometimes happens to news photos, please see:

Thank you, quite a gathering, and lots of pictures

I think they were having quite a party. Let's hope the boat can leave soon untroubled.

    Kind regards,

What is keeping the Plastiki from sailing?

Their website still mentions 0 miles, 0 days and no starting date: when will they finally start? After preparing for so many months, what is the problem, if any? It shouldn't be rocket science, or?

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Pilot's watch

....but you were meant to take off your shoes !!as long as you kept the IWC on the wrist....

A truly positive experience no doubt - after all, how many can claim to have been afloat on a "recycled bottle or two" !

    What a fun visit.

I have no doubt that so much of the behind the scenes stuff is tedious, at best.

But then…you get these truly unique and fun opportunities as recompense!

    Thanks for sharing.

    absolutely, yes.....

MF, I am with you! Hear hear! Of course the crew will wear the Plastiki Ingenieur. Who would not? What is all this worry about scratching watches?
The best watch I ever saw was one that was 'battle scarred'. It looked great and of course it was functioning and reliable. Isn't that what we look for?
Watches are meant to be worn. Especially a watch in this calibre (no pun intended).

    Waste plastic

Goverments or better the food industry should pay schoolchildren e.g. 1 cent per 1 or 10 collected plastic bottles. That could help. I was lately visiting the Danube Delta and it is incredible some parts of the delta are covered with bottles. It is the same situation in practically all the developping countries
