Monday's wristwear, after quite a bit of time spent last week fussing over the right colour replacement for my PPC's worn-out brown strap, it was a tussle between a light-black Santoni, and a straight blue...

    i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/502303/502303wblackblueSantoni12Jul128.jpgi1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/502303/502303wblackblueSantoni12Jul121.jpg
above two are in Santoni light-black strap.

below are in the IWC dark blue strap.

    i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/502303/50230316Jul129.jpg

My objective was to drop the more vintage-esque brown, and to go for a darker color, either black or blue or something in between, to give it a more modern look, and also to bright out the ardoise dial much more strongly.

So - straight dark blue it would be, leaving me with a spare Santoni for future purposes ...

So armed with this to battle 'Monday blues', I started the morning pleasant enough, and later crossed the harbour in the afternoon to another of my offices to find two (rather big) pretty packages waiting for me...

always a good sign on a Monday, yes ? ;-)

Shing - you seem to have "good signs" a-plenty for most weeks :-)

I am surprised that you have been able to wear out the strap of your PPC already, what with all the other IWCs which have found their way onto your wrist over the past 1,5 years!

But with that said, your choice of dark blue is perfect for that watch. I honestly think it looks even better than with the original dark brown one!

Now let's see if you can wear out this one in less than 1,5 years (meaning the blue will give it even more wrist time ;o))

    Shing,

Monday morning greetings. My compliments on the dark blue change. Please tell me, do you know if there is only one blue croc strap offered by IWC ? From the picture it almost looks black. It must be a very dark blue. I really like it with the Ardoise dial. Very Rich Looking !

Now Shing...next question. Are you going to pull a "Andrew Tease" on us with those boxes ? Before opening the big box, listen if it's ticking. If so, it's either a watch or a.......KABOOM !! LOL

    Curious of the contents,

    Andy

    Hi Shing,

That's what I call the right way to start a week.

After seeing these photos of yours I am feeling blue...

Andy, this is the blue I elected in the end (not Santoni - which come only in black, brown, and light brown).

    i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/IMG-20110526-00118.jpg

I believe there could be a second blue - the one for ref 5001-07 may be slightly different. I'm not sure, and will have to check.

@ all Gents - apologies for the blues, pics coming up. still working on them :)

Thanks Shing...and thanks for checking on any other blue strap options. Should you find one and have a ref.# for both, that would be terrific.

the dial - is simply exquisite. the 'subtle shimmering' is unlike the sunburst found in the white gold ardoise dial models, and the latest spitfire chrono in steel. it is a soft gentle shimmering that inter-plays with shadows, depending on what part of the dial catches light.

the tinge of yellow is very understated - but once I know it is there, my eyes hunt for it instinctively.

the 'stamped' leather strap, as indicated in the official broadcast: www.iwc.com/en/news/we-want-the-trophy-and-this-watch/ is something else altogether - with its red underside, its canvas-like top-layer texture, whichis intriguing to touch and play with. in charcoal-black & grey stitching -- sensational ! comfortable to wear, and great to look at.

there is a lot of color interplay on the dial, with the red counter-hands, the
silver which outlined the hands (that also outline the hour markers) ...incredible combinations. for me, every part of this dial is sensational, and elegant and refined -- the play in colors accentuates the minute markers, hour markers, numerals ...

for me, and incredible watch. as I advised two forummers earlier - run to grab one, before the 250 pieces get sold out ! :)

    Shing,

Congratulations and wear it in good health. It is everything we have heard.
Still waiting for mine, as of Saturday it was still "its coming".

    Enjoy,
    Kevin

I like the blue strap but that will not be enough to satisfy your need to blue.
You still need to get a blue dial IWC. Perhaps, Alan can connect you with that shop in Geneva that had a BPP Blue w your name on it. LOL

Congratulations man! Mate, you are the man. One more watch to bring along for the Singapore GTG in August. Wear in good health.

THanks Kevin - yes, my quest continues :)

Are you referring to this BPP Blue with Alan's name on it, lol ?

Beautiful piece - but no precious metal pilots for me (yet). The more obvious choices are the Laureus 5001, perhaps the ref 5021-21, and (though this will not qualify in your books :) - the ref 5443-01 Portuguese Regulateur Wempe Special Edition ! too many choices, alas ...
