    Greetings all,

I recently purchased two panerai watches this year. Prior to owning these panerai, I wore my Mark XVI with pride. Unfortunately, after becoming more interested in watch collecting, I have become unhappy/dissatisfied with my IWC. The small size and seeing more superior IWC models has me seriously considering a new IWC for 2009. These are the options I'm considering in my price range (

    hi Michael,
Sorry to hear you are unhappy/dissatisfied with your XVI, i think it is an amazing timepiece... I wear mine with great pride every single day... i am still mesmerized by it every morning when i put it on even after 14 months of ownership...
    Good luck with your decision.-

Very hard choice and even harder to answer your question . Each and every model is absolutely a stunning piece of mechanical watch making. Just go for any of the listed models. You won't regret it.

it depends on what you need...

are you looking for a dress watch or something more casual? Regardless, I would get the watch I really wanted even if it meant waiting longer and saving up for it. I own 3 of the 4 watches you listed and am happy with all of them. But if I could only keep one watch it would be my Port Auto (5001-09).

Hi Michael, I am not sure which >>>>

....two Pannies you might own because that can influence the choice.

Unlike Stephen's comment, I would not sell both Panerai but depending on your models, I may consider selling one in favor of the BP & 5001.

I happen to also collect Panerai and both brands have co-existed in my collection and daily rotation.

Good luck & keep us posted!

If you are a Panerai guy then I recommend >

getting the BP first. You will love it instantly.
Then indeed get a portuguese as dress watch

    The Portuguese Auto

could be the watch to choose from all watches.
While the BP the one you need most.

    Best of luck

    i agree with argiris...

if there is one watch that personifies IWC it has to be the port auto.

of the list that you mentioned and as everyone has echoed, the ones to get are either the portuguese or the BP. I, personally opted first for the port, as its simplicity and beauty is unlike any other. Having said that, I have also been lusting for the BP for a while now and convinced myself that the SS St. Exupery watch would be a good one to have while i save up and convince the wife about the BP hehe

    Big Pilot!

I bought mine a year ago (or so), and I've weared it the whole year.
I'm still in love with it.

Any other choice is also good for sure.

    Regards, Julx

IMHO, if its the 5004 BP in A, then..

I would choose B) 5001. Its more versatile, you can wear it casual or with a suit,or even formal occasions. size is big enough. bigger than your mark xvi....plus the dial is to die for.

    best

    tim

    PS..if A) BP 5002, then I would have a BIG problem. :)

    Decision...

It happened to me. I have two beautiful chronographs 39mm both: IWC spitfire and Omega speed master. I love these watches but now both use to be in the drawers since I get used to PANERAI size and look (112 and 049-051). IMHO, IWC and PANERAI are complementary brands that match so well in a collection.

Forget about the option C. Buy these two great chronographs don’t keep away from you the desire of the 5001 and the BP. If you do that you will be looking for them sooner.

Tough decision. If you want to wear the watch in a sport manner, may be the BP but if you want the watches for more elegant events (not necessary formal) the 5001 is the best.

I’ve got the 5001, is currently my favorite one (Nad told me before purchase: it is may be the perfect watch. I totally agree now I’ve got it), but some day I would love to have the BP. The fact that made me decide for 5001 is the crystal open back that let you admire the beautiful Cal. 51010. So, my vote for 5001.

    May this help:
