i bought a BP recently and have been enjoying it greatly. i noted something unusual yesterday which i hadnt seen before. the seconds and minute hand appear to be bent inwards. i know the sapphire crystal is very slightly domed and it might cause the hands to appear this way. its pretty evident at low angles. opinions?

i snapped some photos but have no idea how to post them here.

I doubt there is a problem. Others with specific knowledge will respond, I am sure. Here's how to post photos:

    Domed glass does that.

You pay extra for that experience.

    Aloha Branzzz -

A few years ago I noticed that the minute hand on my Big Pilot 5003 appeared to be turned down (i.e., bent inward) and I wondered if it was an optical illusion.

I contacted SC Fong in Hong Kong and he confirmed that the minute hand on his BP 5003 also appeared to be turned down.

Shortly thereafter, I had the chance to meet the watchmaker who designed my watch at IWC in Schaffhausen (Markus Buhler) and he confirmed that the minute hand was intentionally turned down. He seemed surprised that I asked him and said that it was not unusual.

I didn't ask him about the regular Big Pilot line - and yes, I have noticed what you have observed as well.

    Hi,
it is quite normal. Done on purpose and by hand. I don't know the english expression at the moment but it should help to avoid reading errors. You only find this in high quality watches.

The lowered tip helps reduce the parallax effect when reading time from an angle.

    Regards, Jack
