I have a Pilot Petite Prince I would like to know what IWC means for
Waterproof........
Can I wear it in the shower? I know it's dangerous for the bracelet because
it's made in leather. But I would like to Know if it's dangerous for the
mecanic.

Your Petit Prince chronograph should have 6 bar of water resistance. So
washing hands (yours not the watch) and the occasional shower shouldn't be an
issue.
The link below should explain everything you need to know about IWC water
resistance
ratings. Most importantly, pay special attention thos this note: " It should
also be noted that the water-resistance of a watch is not a permanent
characteristic. Seals and sealing systems in particular are subject to wear
and tear and natural ageing. "
I agree with Clem on this one, BUT nevertheless I would not recommend
showering with your watch.
Its more like a pressure resistance and not a deepth resistance the watch has.
The water from the shower usually has a pressure between 2-8 bars (at least in
Germany), so might be too much for the watch.
Also - as far as I´m aware - the sealings are made for a constant pressure and
not rapidly changing pressure. So a watch (with low pressure resistance) might
survive a little dive but not crawl swimming / a shower.
I´m not an expert and I might be not 100% correct, but my point is: Better
take off that watch for showering (tho I can understand you want to wear that
beautiful watch all the time).
Its better to have it not on the wrist for 10 minutes instead of 10 weeks
because it needs to go for expensive service.
Thank you Adrian, now I understand why shower is dangerous for whatches.......
is water jet pressure the problem.
So in this case, if I use my Pilot for a relaxing swim in a lake or see is
less dangerous?
I have a Omega Speedmaster too, and I never take it off in the shower, in the
see, swimmingpool or lake. It's 10 years hold and it's works great.....
Yes, relaxing swim should not be a problem at all with 6 bar resistance. I
know people going in the pool with their Big Pilot Perpetual Calandars =)
There is a really good chance you get away with showering, but I (personally)
would not risk it.
Regarding the 10 years old Speedy, you should definately see a watchmaker and
check on water resistance. As Clem stated already water resistance is a
subject of the actual state of the watch and can change over time.
If you use the watch for swimming etc. you should do a test once a year. Thats
usually for free and takes only a few minutes.
ALthough I concur with both Ardian and Clem (..)
I agree to disagree, let me explain it to you:
Ofcourse you can swim with your petit prince and showering can do no harm
either, BUT I asume you have a leather strap on your beautiful petit prince
and soap and hot water does NOT have the best effect on your bracelet..
I now from experience that (unless you buy a new leather strap yearly anyways)
is is quit costly to do so.
the colours might faint and it weas out quickly. so be warned.
wear it in good health and good luck.
cheers
Thank you Dekkers,
I'm agree with you about the leather bracelet...... It cost not too much, but
if you want in the IWC website you can buy the original IWC bracelet in
Textile material Green or Blue color.
It could be a good compromise.......
