    Dear
    fellow iwc enthusiasts,

i just received this IWC watch in 35mm steel case with tear-drop lugs and gold
dial and handset. I have multiple questions:

    1. Is the dial original? The IWC logo and font itself seems very accurate but
it seems quite small to me... shouldn't it be bigger?

    2. Is the seconds hand replaced? It seems quite short and out of
proportions... also it's quite clean compared to hands and dial...

    3. Is the crown original? I know IWC used the crowns with fish on it but I
have never seen them on such early watch... was it added during later service
    or somebody just put it
    in?

    4. Could you help me dating the watch since I could find it's age via date
your iwc website. Case no: 1084938 movement no:
    1115133

    5. Is the watch franken or correct?

Thanks a lot for responses and I am looking forward to hearing your opinions!

    Best regards,

    matej

Hello, your watch is from 1946, case was made in the same period.

The dial looks ok for me, indeed the second hand is not OK, looks like a
    replacement.

Also the fsh crown is not original to the cal 83 I believe. Looking at it, is
an early fish crown. Could be replaced during service.

    I hope this info helps

    Hi Mateo,

Tonny shined a light on the year of production. The second hand is not
original, the dial looks ok however i have never seen this kind of round
applied hour markers before. The type of fish crow was used by the factory at
that time, but ist was only applied to waterproof watches. I can see no gasket
in the case back or the middle part so it is most probably replaced during a
    service.

BUT please replace the movement holder screw on the center bridge, the one
with the washer i see on your picture doesnt belong to this beautiful
    movement.

    Nice Watch

Thanks guy for the enlightenment. The gasket is missing in the caseback as it
was completely dried out and broken. I removed It upon the first opening of
the watch. And also the crown has its own small gasket in it which would
suggest that the watch was indeed waterproof.

To the screw. I didn't even see it, thank you for pointing it out. Fortunately
I have a spare caliber 83 for situations like this and I just replaced it with
the correct one. Here is the picture, let me know if I did it right.

The seconds hand that is in the watch at the moment appears to be from cal 83
but from the small version as it has the same proportions as one I have home
from the spare movement. If anybody has a spare seconds hand for my watch let
me know I would like to replace it. Thanks a lot for insight and support.

    Hi Matej,

so everything turns out fine, the movement holder screw looks a lot better
now. As you mentioned the gasket in the caseback and the crown also the fish
crown seems to be correct. This is a eraly waterproof watch, this fact also
makes sense when we judge the inside of the case, which has no sign of
    humidity penetrated into it.

Schaffhausen turned up at the military WWW convention with a snap-back...

Great watch Mateon...the dial is a little later but given the manafactured
timeframe that is to be expected.

The hand is an easy fix at service point, personally i'd leave it, thanks for
    showing.
