    Hello,

    I'm Peter from Germany.

I just purchased this beautiful IWC with a Cal. 70 movement.
Regarding it's case number it seems to have been produced in 1946.
The Arabic indexes on the black dial are gold coloured and raised.

I looked for more informations about this Cal. 70... it is always referred to
    as very rare movement.
Only 4800 seemed to be produced. Why? What was the reason?
As far as I understand most of similar looking watches of that time had the
    Cal. 83 inside.

    Best Regards
    Peter

I think the c.70 and the c.89 c.88 where developped together.

The have very similar serial numbers c.70 (only 4 series of 1200 Pieces)

    1'096'001 - 1'097'200

    1'100'201 - 1'101'400

    1'104'401 - 1'104'600

    1'111'601 - 1'112'800

The c.89 with the same winding and and barrel arrangement started with

    1'109'201 -1'110'400

..... and many others, totally 220'200 pieces produced

the small second version c.88 starts

    1'110'401 - 1'111'600 ("only" 37'200 produced)

So we have tree consecutive series:

    within 1'109'201 - 1'112'800

    c.89 ; c88; c.70

I think the c.70 (why this odd number?) was produced as tial to build a
cheaper movement, when the c.88/c.89 was developped. So a free movment number
    was
used (inserted) for it. (The c.69 had not hunter pendant, so c.70 was free).

Probably the c.70, which had compared to the c.88/89 a flat balance spring and
only 3 bridges. The c.88/90 has a brequet balance spring and 5 bridges.

    Left c.70 right c 88;

    Quites imilar

    regards Ralph
