Assuming that price is not a consideration, which one would you get and why? I already own the Port Chrono 371401 and the Pilot Chrono 371701. I am looking for a dark (i.e. black) dial IWC to finish off my collection. I know the Port Auto is a model I do not have but the ardoise dial on the Port Chrono is so mesmerizing.

Anyway, your thoughts are really appreciated.

Port Chrono Ardoise or Port Auto Black Dial

    port auto for me.
reasons - i love steel and the port auto is a 100% IWC in house movement.

    Why not...

    ...Port Auto Ardoise!
That is of course if the price is not a consideration.

    Great dilemma to have :)

Realize the ardoise will reflect some light, >

whilst the black will not. I think, this is the kind of thing to see for yourself at the AD.

If you are looking for a dark dial

then it has to be the black one. Ardoise is not dark for most of its daily use. Take them both for a test drive at the AD.
However, the Ardoise dial has built in diversity change with light so that would be my choice.......I also prefer blondes but my girlfriend is a Châtain so best not listen to me (LOL).

    There is only 1 solution...

Great thoughts everyone. I really appreciate all your input. I think the only logical (and insane) solution is to get both! Here is my reasoning:

    1. Both watches would add something very unique to my collection. I do not yet own a watch with the IWC in house movement. The ardoise dial Port Chrono is unique in itself even though I already own the 371401.
    2. I am nuts.

I think reason #2 is the most compelling.

Reason #2 applies to most on this forum.

I would go for the Port Auto Black Dial

I truly like black dials, and the Portuguese Automatic has a wonderful in house movement that you can admire through the back crystal, it has a rather big date, and a power reserve indicator that is much more useful than the very restricted chronograph. I really am an odd man out here, but I would even say "no contest". So, be different, everybody here has ardoise, you would never stand out.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing titan Inge Automatic (again a watch almost nobody seems to have or like: are they all horribly wrong)

Haha, you are right: the best solution!
