Hi, having just bought a new Portofino automatic and being new to this forum I was just wondering if anyone could give me an informed answer as to the basic ebauche for this model. I understand that it used to be the ETA 2892-2, is that still the case or have things changed?

    AGVG,

If it's a new Portofino (3565) from 2011 then it is run by a Sellita SW300 movement. It is a very dependable movement, and in fact Sellita used to make various parts for ETA.

I too own the Portofino Automatic (white dial with Milanese mesh and leather variants) and I'm very happy with it. It gains just 3 seconds a day and I can't complain with that.

Enjoy yours and please post some pics of it.

    Todd

Having now owned this watch for a few weeks I am amazed by its accuracy. I only own two mechanical watches the new Portofino (my previous Portofino was stolen)and a seven year old Omega Seamaster chronometer 1120 calibre,(model now unavailable) I really like them both. I alternate daily between the two and whilst the Omega gains slightly about 1 second a day the Portofino has stayed spot on, amazing! My theory is wearing them this way, whatever gain is made in a day is lost on the day it's not worn so keeping accurate time without the need to adjust them. On the day a watch is not worn it is critical to store it in the optimum position, with mine face up for the Portofino, crown up for the Omega,(a certain amount of trial and error required here). I have to say my original Portofino was just about as accurate that's why I bought another, I hope the thief that stole it appreciates it as much as I did. Well done IWC for producing such fine timepieces.

I too own 3565 although on black leather and I'm still in love with. It really is a dependable and accurate watch. And fascinating as well.

Besides the Portofino Automatic, there is one special Italian Ingenieur I am proud to call my own.
