Elegant is the word I would use to sum up the Vintage Collection Portofino. After almost a week, I am still getting to know the watch. The steel version is not as strikingly beautiful as the platinum white dialed version but it has a certain understated feel about it.

It's comfortable but is slghtly thicker than I expected. The sapphire crystal is facinating in the way that it catches light and the anti-reflective coating throws off a blue hue against the black dial.

    Here's some pictures...

    Nicely done, Ralph

I am happy you are enjoying the VC Portofino as much as I. It is big at 46mm, but fits my wrist very comfortably. It seems thin to me, but that is in comparison to the 5022 PPC.

Enjoy your new IWC and wear it in good health. Great close up photos, btw.

Its a beutiful watch, possibly the

best of the new vintage range and as you said

"The steel version is not as strikingly beautiful as the platinum white dialed version"

BUT to my mind neither can ever match up to the real thing. That said it comes damn near close

Congratulations Rave on a really great new acquisition. Wera it in good health

    Hi Rave,

This is your second VC piece, are you going for the Portugieser next? Is the crown on this piece easy to grasp?

Thanks for sharing your fine photo album :-)

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful watch

The watch looks great, also on you. Please, could you reveal to us your secret on how you get rid of the reflex of your own camera?

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing your watches niece, the VC Portuguese

    The secret...

I have a Canon digital SLR with a 100mm macro fixed lens, a Canon flash (off camera linked by cable) and finally a Cloud Dome light box. I use "manual" mode at f22. I prefer to use natural light but the weather is very poor so flash is essential, shutter speed set to 1/60th of a second.

The rest is luck. I haven't had the time to set the shots carefully. These are still quick and dirty.

    Best regards,

    Ralph

The secret seems to be the Cloud Dome light box

Thank you for your details. I do not have the kind of equipment that you mention, but I think that the major difference is the light box. It will kill all reflections, but I always thought that whatever you do, the lens itself will show in the crystal. This doesn't happen in your pictures, so maybe the surrounding area of the hole you put the lens through is also black, like the lens, thus minimizing the reflections from this side.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing VC Portuguese
