I finally gave in and bought the Portofino Vintage in Steel. So far, it is great. One problem is the winding of the watch. The way I read the instructions, you just wind the watch in its normal position, without pulling out the crown. The crown is so close to the face and so small, it is hard for me to wind it. Does anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong?

I tried winding nearly every time I have tried the watch at the AD or boutique and for my fingers it was OK. I have medium sized hands and fingers.

Anyway - congratulations on your excellent watch. A great buy.

Winding is quite stiff and there's...

not much crown to get hold of. You will soon get used to it. It's similar to the 5001 and Portuguese Jubilee insofar as the crown does not screw down. Nevertheless, it's a great watch and congratulations on getting one.

I have a steel Portofino Automatic and when winding manually on the wrist, the crown does slip a bit. I find it helps if the strap is on the loose side so you can angle the watch away from the wrist slightly and get a better angle inon the crown.

    Winding off wrist

I always wind my watches while holding them in my two hands, in the morning, before putting them on (well, one watch per day or so). Setting the correct time is also much easier that way.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing super winding VC Portuguese
