This may sound like a dumb question to some but, in which direction should my portuguese chrono be wound while on a winder, or does it matter? Thanks

The winding mechanism is bi-directional. It makes no difference not he winder.
Thanks Bill
*** CORRECTION
Actually, the Portuguese Chronograph, Ref 3714 will only wind in the clockwise direction on an automatic winder. The Portuguese Chrono movement is NOT a Pellaton, automatic movement which winds bi-directionally. It only winds as the rotor spins in a single direction - like a ratchet.
You need to set your auto winder to rotate the watch clockwise. About 800-900 turns per day, should keep it running.
I defer to the expert and retract my comment. Thanks Richard for the correction. I wrote before I thought.
