Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia

Paranal, Chile, 27 August 2011 – Yesterday, in the middle of the Atacama Desert in Chile, IWC Schaffhausen presented a technological masterpiece of Haute Horlogerie to journalists from all over the world. After ten years of intensive research, the Swiss watch manufacturer has succeeded in uniting solar time with sidereal time, together with astronomical displays, in a single watch. The result is a fascinating universal work of art which comes with a wealth of surprising complications and new technical features.
The Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia is the most complex timepiece ever created by IWC.

Editafter reviewing the information available thus far: In an earlier post I had said the Portuguese Grande Complication felt like the "world is in my hands". This one is clearly headed for 'the universe shall be in your hands".

Look forward to even more information and fatabulous pics. Congrats again and regardless how each masterpiece is received, thank u for astounding us throughout the year.

And just when I was wondering why we don't see any major technical innovations from IWC in the recent SIHH Fairs here come the Siderale.
OK we need more information on this and photos.
But first impression is WOΟΟΟWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps IWC would use this masterpiece as a show piece when it opens their North American Flag Ship Boutique in NYC in Feb 2012(?)

Saw a blurb or two about this over the last two weeks. The name is aptly chosen.
Would love to see one on my wrist. But I am guessing the price will be out of this world.

A remarkable feat and it's good to see that the Schaffhausen R&D department has been working on such an exciting project. To see one would be a great privilege.

I suspect there's little chance of this watch being made available as a special Collectors' Forum edition? It might even placate our new German friends :)

Congratulations to IWC for this fantastic piece, great to see another engineering feat accomplished; this is just taking the notion of sailing to the next level. By the way I feel that I have all the reasons to acquire a piece of this; it would be in part a matter of what I can do to sponsor the 10-year reasearch done. It would take me less than a (light)year for that matter, I hope.

A giant step for IWC with an unbelievably beautiful IWC. It's great to see the design and engineering geniuses in Schaffhausen working together on a new Masterpiece. Unfortunately, I will have to admire it from afar I suspect.

Maybe, we can see it up close when the NYC Boutique opens.

Wow. A spectacular achievement and a technical innovation reminding me of some of the best moments in IWC.

Certainly a bold move to extend the price point range of IWC to perhaps one of the "widest" in industry from simple to extraordinary complications.

Dreams, at least they are free. Seeing one of these Portuguese Sidérales live would indeed be a privilege and an honour. Maybe a consolation for us all: some of our watches we have to wind too.

A subsidised CF edition available for CHF20000? That I would be interested in! Hate to think what the price is, oh well it's nice to have a dream even if reality puts it well out of reach by miles or light years even.
