A subsidised CF edition available for CHF20000? That I would be interested in! Hate to think what the price is, oh well it's nice to have a dream even if reality puts it well out of reach by miles or light years even.

This is definitely a milestone for IWC. I am looking forward to seeing it in the boutiques here. I am sure like many of you will agree, IWC has created a new horological feat in its rich history.
Great watch. And lucky me --I get to see it, and maybe even try it on, this week. But since it's several times the price of an il Destriero Scafusia (which "only" was introduced 18 years ago), I'll have to pass on buying it for the time being.
But really this is a truly magnificent horolgical accomplishment. Wait for more details tomorrow.
An absolutely amazing watch. Congratulation IWC!
MF,
Any idea how many will be produced? Since each one is matched to it's owner I would anticipate that the price makes the actual number self limiting anyway.
Alan - I don't know yet, but the answer is few, only because of the time to produce and assemble each, presumably by one watchmaker. I should know more later this week, since this incredible watch is one of the reasons I'll be in Schaffhausen.
Now is the time for that £161 million lottery win, if only. Incredible piece, well done to all involved. Apart from that I am speechless.
MF photos galore please since its another passion of yours! Will they let you try it for the week? After all you might want an RG and Pt models depending on your mood, but do not take it fishing!!
What a masterpiece! We will be looking forward to your impressions. Like many here...I can only sigh from afar because I know the price point would necessitate me finding oil in my backyard (not always such a stretch in this neck of the 'woods!')!
Congrats to the technical and design team of IWC.
Hope to see it some day... though it will be as rare as the Il Destriero.. I quess
Michael,
Since you will be in Schaffhausen with all the decision makers perhaps you can convince them to display it at the NYC Boutique when it opens?
Safe Travels.
Kevin
Kevin,
The piece will be quite rare since each takes so much watchmaking time to produce. While I'm not sure about the NYC boutique, I know that there are several special events involving it in the US being discussed, and it's likely I may be at some. I would think at least one will be in NYC.
As I learn more, I'll try to mention any Siderale events here and get interested forum members on the invite lists.
I'm told that it will be a maximum of 10 pieces per year, and you're correct in saying that it's one watchmaker. In fact, there is only one watchmaker qualified in Schaffhausen to work on the Sidérale.
It's not just the star chart that's customizable, but every single aspect of the watch. You can choose any metal, any strap, any dial. You can also choose to highlight certain stars or constellations from your specified location, and it is calculated from a specific coordinate, not just a generic city.
Great news from the Probus Scafusia factory. I like this news about technical know how that is developped inhouse. After the pure classic and dual time it is a good sign that the tech. department is still alive and kicking.
Love to see one in the flesh.
I am also curious what base caliber was used.
I REALLY like it that IWC took the effort (years?) to develop and produce such a masterpiece! This level of complexity is hardly ever seen, I only can think of something 'comparable' by another great Swiss watch manufacturer.
I'm glad it's not another incarnation of an earlier (complex) watch, but designed from scratch (I guess). Well done and congratulations IWC!!!
Regards,
Bob
what a work of art,
it goes into the history iwc.
Unfortunately, even with adjustment of the German forum.
best regards
A truly magnificent horolgical accomplishment by IWC, well done and congratulations to the team. Farhad
Cheers from Isobars.
