I have been looking more closely at the new Portuguese Yacht Club line up trying to decide whether the black or white dial is my favorite. I like both, but the white dial and white hands could be downgraded if there were issues with legibility of the hands...white on white.

I like black dial IWC, but have to admit my WD AT2000 is a real winner and the hands are not an issue.

I hope my AD ordered both dials so I can go back for some in store wrist time.

    I can just wait now...

In all the pictures the white dial looked...

more alluring. But on the wrist I thought the black dial was the better choice. You have until summer to think it through. I don't think you will go wrong either way.

I had no issue with the legibility

    Hello Bill,
I had a chance to see both versions of the Yacht Club in the Zurich IWC Boutique. In bright sunlight, the metal numbers on the white dial still had enough contrast to be easily read. And during the night there is enough luminous material on hands and dial for easy reading. What made me decide for the white dial is the red seconds hand beeing presented much more prominent on the white dial than on the black one (in my personal view).
I will get my white dialed Yacht Club in July.

I personally preferred the black dial. Well actually I thought the rose gold with ardoise dial was the best....after I saw that one the white dial was not in the same league LOL.
But these things are very personal...

    Hello Nicky,
have you noted the "Probus Scafusia" engraving on the folding clasp of the Yacht Club? This is an absolutely stunning new design element!

    I agree with you....

Apparently the new logo was not an easy thing to design and manufacture. I sat next to the project manager for this at dinner one night and he said it was a challenge to get accomplished.

Here is a picture. I hope this is the right one.

    Looks nice

And in retrospect difficult things done well often look easy. However, looking at it I cannot imagine what is difficult about it once you have decided how it should look like. Did the project manager elaborate on the difficulties?

I agree...I think that you cannot go wrong regardless of the one you choose! These are great photos, Bill!

At first it was white (and still is), but...

...I also like the black as well. I think the the white around the dial, the hands, and the markers help "lighten" an otherwise too dark dial. I find it very cleverly designed.

But the white remains my favorite. Matches well on a sunny summer day with the blue of the sky & water :)

    Cheers,
    Evan

Sorry guys but I ll have to dissagree

with you, I never liked gold in all colours but the RG Yacht Club with ardoise dial made me fall for it so there is a clear winner for me.

Guess I'm still the odd man out.

    I don't like the watch.

Oh, on a stand alone basis, the design is fine. It is the attachment of two venerable IWC names to an unrelated piece that I don't care for.

Other than the numerals, I see nothing Portuguese about that watch, and I'm not speaking about nationalities.

The movement is far too outstanding on its own to need the superfluous Yacht Club name to help carry it.

While the design is fine and the movement outstanding, attaching two venerable names to something they don't fit seems as wrong as if my friend named his son Kurt Klaus Shimasaki.

Just my two swiss francs' worth. Your mileage may vary.

Well, you make some good points but I ...

have never been one to let history or tradition stand in the way. I think the purist would certainly agree with you and for the reasons you stated. But whatever you call it, the design is very nice.

Two odd men out, but for a different reason

Once, not too long ago, an IWC collector told me while I was drooling over the rose gold VC Portuguese, that it was not a real Portuguese because it had a gold case. I just told him that I liked the watch immensely, and I bought one.

The combination of Portuguese and Yacht Club is strange, but then, why not, as long as the watch is nice. Well, it may be nice, but I do not like it enough, I will not repeat why. No harm done, but white, grey or black doesn't matter to me in this case.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing yellow gold Portuguese Perpetual Calendar: here the white dial was chosen on purpose, and it still looks fantastic

    Both are beautiful...

But I am afraid I'd prefer any other Portuguese than theses new models. Just a matter of taste, I guess.

Bill, I cast my vote for WHITE DIAL. I have the GST Chrono with both a white and a black dial, and I like them both......but the white dial gets more wrist time, given it is sometimes just that little bit more elengant than the 100% sporty looks of the Black Dial .. Get then both on the wrist and take it from there!

For me it's the black dial. I just think it suits the black strap better.

The black of the strap seems to run through the dial and sets off the metal case better.

The white face still looks great though, but on the wrist, the black face looks more flowing.
