Hello all, I am new to this forum and have registered to ask a (hopefully)
rather specific question. I have always preferred pocket watches over
wristwatches, and I have always found IWC pocket watches especially alluring.
Now I have had an unexpected windfall and I want to start the hunt for the
watch I always wanted, namely an IWC pocket watch cal. 972 or 982. I am not
too peculiar about the case (open face vs. hunter, steel vs. gold etc.) as it
is the clockwork that intrigues me.

Unfortunately I lack the feel for what would be a decent price. I am not
looking for a bargain, but obviously I do not want to fall for a scam either.
Can anyone help me with ballpark estimates for such watches, depending on the
case? For example, I have found a gold savonette with papers, in seemingly
good condition, for EUR 3,000. How would you rate that price?

Thanks in advance for your help.

972 in steel = 700 to 1,000 Euro; no 982 in steel existent.

972 in silver about the same; 982 in silver 1,000 to 2,000

972 in gold quite wide spread depending on the condition and the look. 982 in
gold 1,500 to 2,200 (There are no fashionable 982 cases made).

Thank you! That was exactly the kind of information I was hoping for. So the
price for the watch I found is definitely on the high side.
