Purchasing an IWC Deployant Clasp for 3 year old Portuguese

I have a beautiful 3 year old rose gold Portuguese Chronograph (with the slate grey face). Originally came with the simple clasp. My AD is ordering a deployant clasp and just quoted me US$ 3,020 for the clasp alone, plus i'd need a new strap! While i would love to update my watch to the deployant clasp, this seems way too excessive and probably not a worthhile upgrade. Asthetically superior and some other practical benefits, but is priced to make this an "unwise" luxury. Does this pricing sound correct?

I don't know the exact List Price, but the number you were quoted does not surprise me. Deployant clasps in precious metals are extremely expensive.

I have a Jubilee Portuguese in rose gold that was supplied on a gold tang buckle. I didn't want to spend huge amounts on a deployant, either. I'd rather use the money for a watch!

I bought a very nice RG plated double deployant from an aftermarket supplier. It cost about USD $35 though that was years ago. The color matches the watch quite closely and the clasp has functioned perfectly for many years.

The clasp in steel is over £300 in the UK so your $ price sounds correct. The difference in comfort of a deployant versus pin buckle makes me wish they were standard on all watches as they do help seat a watch to the wrist and I do not have the setting of a summer and winter hole on the strap as I do with some of my pin buckle models.
Actually go to your AD and see whether you could live with a steel version instead, to a casual glance the colour difference might not get noticed.
