This beautiful watch is unfortunately not protected against magnetic fields. Although it does have a solid caseback (unlike the exihibition back of the 323401), as it appears in the IWC Annual Edition of 2008 there is no mention of a soft-iron inner case or magnetic protection.
So that unfortunately confirms my suspicion that not all Ingenieur’s are shielded. I was hoping the moniker was consistent across the line. Is there an easy way to tell (by model or caliber perhaps) which ones are shielded?
With the current collection, only the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport models with the "lightning bolt" seconds hands are protected against magnetic fields. With earlier generations you can safely assume any model with a display back is not protected. For the most part it was the simple three handers that were equipped with Farraday shields, but that was not always the case (as you just found out).
