at the important auction in NYC....estimated $8-16K, sold for $30'000 (including commission)...I think it quite sets a new reference price for such an Aquatimer...
This auction also broke the record for the highest price for a wrist watch ever sold...Paul Newman's own Daytona....$ 17'752'200...just unbelievable...

It shows what top quality with accessories and the right audience means for the price of a watch. A charismatic auctioneer may also help. Generally it was a high quality auction. To me, $ 30,000 is a lot of money, but I noticed that the Aquatimer was the cheapest watch at this auction.

Indeed, the auctioneer was probably the star of that sale...it was a one man's show...
I agree with you, the AT reached a record a price, so within the IWC world is quite a milestone..however, as compared to the other 50 watches on that sale, that was the lowest value...I find it puzzling that TAG, Omega and Longines (although rather rare pieces) reached higher records...

I am both proud and apprehensive of this new record for IWC. Of course Aquatimer is well worth the price but I sort of hope that IWC vintage pieces continue to stay under the radar. Vintage market is getting ridiculously overpriced for an average collector. So far this hasn’t been the case for us here but this surely doesn’t make us appreciate the watches any less, right?

Thanks for sharing, was curious what it sold for... indeed a serious amount, and I also share the other emotions that I don't understand at all why some of the other brands go soooo much higher sometimes.....

    Kind regards,
