In 1985 i bought this IWC Ref. 1819 with an original transparent back new from an AD in Berne. At that time transparent backs on wrist watches were very rare.

Even IWC can't reconstruct the reason why this watch was fitted with such a back.

I bought the watch because I could enjoy the visible movement ...

    1st dibs..

I think the Cromagnonman-chap on this forum owns a manual c.89 bought from a seller that converted it at horological school ( or something very similar). Hopefuĺly he'll be along in a jiff to fine tune my memory.

I have seen another in the flesh and i recall asking the former moderator if schaffhausen produced them and was told they were emphatically never manafactured. I regret not buying it, the dial was an odd silvery/light blue and untouched..it was correct, just without a back story.

Is the movement temp & positions marked?
