One and all - as this is my first post here, let me start by expressing my
appreciation for the knowledge shared here.

I have two IWC's at this time, a wonderful and classic Ref. 5002 Big Pilot and
a recently acquired Ref 3711 Doppelchronograph. I have a question regarding
the latter. I find the screw-in crown action to be somewhat strained. It does
not push in and close easily and when in closed position there seems to be
quite a distance between the crown and the case. This is the new 'Probus'
crown - a service replacement (done by IWC). Can anyone comment on whether
this is normal or whether I should have a watchmaker look at this... I will
upload two pics, the first mine and the second one from the seller where I
    bought the watch.
You can see the gap between crown and case on both pictures. (Note: the seller
has an excellent reputation, this post is in no way about the seller btw).

    Thanks in advance

    Jw

Here are two photos of my 3711. You can see there is very little gap between
the crown and case. My Doppel has the origianl fish crown. Note too the
disctinve and unique domed crystal of the 3711. If yours is a probus crown it
was changed at some point, probably during a service.

Thanks Bill. The crown was indeed replaced during an IWC Service. Does your
crown easily push back and screw-in and could you indicate if you have half a
turn to close or less. Mine needs only a small nudge (perhaps .1 of a turn).
And I do have the domed crystal - this gives this watch that classic/vintage
look in my opinion, which is why I went for a 3711.

The crown needs a bit of a push as you turn it minimally anti-clockwise to
engage and then screw in. It works easily for me.

Doesn't like right IMO - likely stripped and needs a look at - I would send it
    in for a service.

Stumbled over this threat. Did you keep the watch? I found one that uses the
same picture you provided from the seller. Did you find out what was wrong
    with the watch?

I kept it and sent it over to IWC via my local AD last week.

Thanks for your quick update. Strange that the watch still seems to be listed.
I contacted the seller to get some information. Really nice watch by the way.

Today I receided my watch back from IWC and I thought I'd close off this
thread and provide information so others can benefit from this experience. I
had a comprehensive service performed on the watch, in addition to the request
to resolve the issue with the crown. This entailed things like a complete
movement dismantling and ultrasonic clean of all movement parts for example.
I found out that you could request IWC to replace the 'Probus' crown with the
'Fish' crown ! This I did, bringing the 3711 back to its original
    configuration which is nice.

Wow - amazing to see that IWC is now offering the "fish crown" for older
pieces other than the 5002. Very nice!
