Repair cost unclear

My IWC portofino had an accident, if fell on concrete and the sapphire glass shattered.
It's only one year old and I still have guarantee (obviously not on the glass).
The shop were the watch was bought sent it to IWC but weren't able to tell me any cost estimation.
I was told that the guarantee is on the movement only, and that IWC has to open the watch and look for small glass pieces in the movement and therefore completely open, disassemble and reassemble the watch.

Has someone experience with cases like this, and knows more or less what kind of cost I can expect?

The usual protocol is that the workshop will assess the damage and contact you with a quote before beginning the work. From our side, we cannot say as we do not know how extensive is the damage.

thanks for your reply.
Since the movement is under warranty, Let's assume the watch didn't take any damage besides the glass.
So the workshop will have to disassemble the watch, don't find any glass inside and reassemble the watch (This is still under warranty, right?), so only the glass has to be replaced.
Is this more likely to have an price estimation?

Does warranty play a role here? I always thought that the warranty was meant for watch failure for no particular, evident reason. Here, the watch fell, I would say that every repair necessary because of it has to be paid, unless IWC decides to be nice: they were towards me when one of my watches fell just after a repair.

Sorry to break the bad news but my guess is you are looking at a complete service and crystal replacement at minimum and hoping the movement didn't sustain any damage from the impact. Probably close to 1G in the US.

Hi maybe I'm a bit more optimistic but we don't know which Portofino it is? A regular full-service on a chrono is a few hundred more expensive than a time/date version!
The good news is that the chrystal is that the sapphire glass itself is not so expensive, between 50-70 euro's what I recall from having it replaced on a Pilot and Portuguese.

Anyway, stupid accent, get over it, and enjoy the watch again when you'll get it back in like new condition!

I know we typically stay away from service discussions - but this is a clear, cut-and-dry question. The shattered crystal and owner's account state that the watch suffered from an impact. Therefore warranty will not play a role here - any damage of the movement will be assumed done by the impact, and not fault of IWC product issue.

Also, I think the crystals are more expensive than we think - I was quoted $270 over two years ago to replace the crystal on my Portuguese while it was in for Perpetual Calendar service - I really don't think it's unreasonable to guess, a complete service and crystal for a basic Portofino Automatic may be $750 or more. Be prepared.
