Dear All - my 3750 da Vinci (perpetual Chrono - old style, round, brushed steel, white face from mid-90s) is in for service and I was thinking of asking for the saphire crystal which apparently exists as an expensive alternative to the plexiglass. I heard that it's technically phenomenally difficult to produce and therefore has a slightly different profile to the normally supplied plexiglass - has anybody seen it / does anybody have a 3750 with this fitted?

    Best wishes

    Mike R

    I've seen them...

They are slightly thicker, but you probably wouldn't notice absent a side-by-side comparison.

You are right --due to the lip the crystal has been to custom fabricated, and is very expensive for IWC to obtain from the producer. They are nice but I'm not sure that, if I had one, I'd spend the extra money here. The plastic isn't what's done today, but originally it was considered fine since it 's easily polishable for small scratches and easily replaceable if necessary.

Many thanks for this Michael - food for thought...!
