Schaffhausen Collectors Meeting 2014 – The Watches

What an experience it was to take part in the Collectors Events at Schaffhausen. It was a real privilege to learn, see/touch/feel and discuss the past, present and future of IWC and their watches.

A special thanks to Goris Verburg, Karlheinz Baumann, Dominic Weir, Kurt Klaus, Hannes Pantli, Michael Friedberg, Marcel Orschel, Thomas Bregel, David Seyffer, Hansjörg Kittlas, and countless other IWC members who helped make the days unforgettable.

I'm afraid I don't have too many photos as it was far too easy to get caught up in passionate discussions with fellow forummers and IWC members, but here’s my initial batch – of only what brought us together in the first place-- the very special watches.

Looks like a reference 1819, but it's a watch with a Calibre 1000, which was to be the new ultra-thin automatic watch planned for the 100th anniversary of IWC in 1968!

The quality of watches on show this week was matched only by the quality of people gathering in Schaffhausen. It was a wonderful three days and huge thanks to MF, Goris, Dominic and the rest of the IWC team. I am grateful that you managed to capture some of these watches, Thang.

I am also afraid I didn't take many pictures because of social engagement, and the fact I actually forgot to bring a camera in my haste to get to Schaffhausen - with exception of my iPhone.

Few collectors were in Schaffhausen , having attended (nearly) all of the colletor meetings from the start. I was there from the start and I was caught by the magic spirit that hangs around , when you are in Schaffhausen. Although superb, the SIHH meetings in Geneva are different. This is understandable as the task of the IWC staff is to sell the majority of their production to world wide dealers in a time span of 3-4 days. In Schaffhausen the attention of the IWC staff goes for more than 100 % to the collectors. And those who were invited for the first time must have noted that. As well as they must have noted the extra ordinary friendship between collectors from all over the world. These friendships have turned out to last for many years and many collectors are seeing each other at local IWC events or in their private homes. They help each other in finding rare pieces, ship for each other watches, share experiences and provide the best advice they can.
This collector spirit is for me one of the best experiences of my life.
All of this came to me by this great Forum, its moderator, the entire IWC staff and my fellow collectors.

Thang, it was simple sublime to meet you. And thanks for posting (and identifying) many of the wonderful watches that were present. The medical community also thanks you for identifying several of the pecular strains of the IWC virus, which is known to mutate quite frequently.

You should have done a presentation documenting you and Arne picking up your Zegg BPPs and also Kevin and Alan picking up Alan's WG Bucherer BPP. Those are great stories that collectors like to hear about!
