I have not worn my 3711 Doppel for some time. I grabbed it from the safe today and what a treat it is to see all seven hands doing their thing. I don't like pictures with the crown sticking out like a missal from the case, but some compromise was required to stop all the action going on and get the hands lined up properly.

Here are two pictures to celebrate this great IWC. Only the background was changed to protect the innocent. : ). Notice the wonderful patina on the tritium quarter hours markers and the hands.

Question from something I just noticed on the photos above. Were the seconds hands coated with tritium? You can see a small piece of coating missing from the seconds hand at 20 seconds. The seconds hands don't have the same yellowish patina at the hour and minutes hands and quarter hour markers, which makes me think they were not coated with tritium.

    Great watch and photos Bill.

Looks to me like that "spot" is where paint, has come off that seconds hand. How on earth did you spot that "defect" - through the lens? Probably looks like a spec of dust with the naked eye!

Either way, I still like this watch.

    Best regards
    Mark

Actually, I saw it when I was doing some post processing of the picture. My curious question is it paint missing or tritium? I don't think the seconds hands were coated with tritium.

    Hi Bill,

Any sign of where the paint is?

I would not be worried if the paint was lost before/during assembly but somewhat concerned if it finds its way into the movement.

    Cheers Greg.

    Excellent pictures, thanks for sharing.
Just one question, something "disturbs" the view, on the hour hand there is a tiny spot, looks like a hole punched with a needle. Something on the sapphire glass or on the hour hand itself?

The spot you see is on the hand. It seems this is part of the aging process for the tritium; it flakes off.

@Cellar: The 3711 was just recently in for service. I expect any debris that may have been inside the movement or dial is no longer hanging around.

I remeber our converatson2 in Schaffhausen 2007 and I watch with interest your IWC collection. Its deveolping well, although my own interests lay with watches pre Richmont days.
